There's a rumor that Australia will prohibit possession of lever-action firearms. Two questions: 1. Any truth to it? 2. Any chance it might happen? Bill Quimby

It seems Australia usually can't follow the USA quick enough, has divided her country up into states with state governments and a federal (Commonwealth) government, has her nose firmly in the USA backside following into whatever war or skirmish the States gets herself involved in round the world but when it comes to firearms, Oz seems hell bent on siding with the old home country (Britain) with some of the most ridiculous gun laws out there. Nothing would surprise me.

Eagle: Just a note of comparison. Friend in UK, told me about the latest shake down going on over there with gunners. One of his mates was arrested and sentenced to 2yrs for having TWO cartridges he didn't have on his license! They must have had a new anti hired to run the show and is trying to make a name for himself. The girl that had been doing the licensing and changes in permits has been fired and being investigated for her dealings with shooters and dealers. Everyone has been put on notice they are all going to be inspected, all 11,000 of them. Sounds quite drastic. George "Gun Control is NOT about Guns' "It's about Control!!" Join the NRA today!" The importers of the new ADLER lever action shotgun put out a Gung Ho movie on You Tube showing how fast that the eight shots could be sprayed...and the result is that they will most likely be re classified to catagory C..(same as Semi auto's and Pumpguns) we will still be able to buy them, but ONLY if you classify for a Catagory C firearm...(Farmer,certified Guard,Military, etc...)There are something like 6,000 orders for them, so there are some puckered arseholes out there waiting for the decision...

A couple of people told me that a year or so ago ,if one of the Dilitante Antis sees that ad ,im sure their next push, and there always is one with these so called progressive types, to keep banning until we all live in their Utopian ''Logans Run'' World they want us to live in,i was wanting to buy a 44 Magnum and a 45/70 lever, damn them !

Thank God for the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution! So sorry to hear about the issues that you all deal with regarding firearms.

Bloody hell! Something about that story reminds me of that video of the guy digging, cutting and sawing with his folding spade. If the Adler is anything like one ersatz '87 I've seen, it might fail to live up to the BS, too.

Havent followed the whole circus but it was interesting to see the WA coppers quickly said they wouldnt be considering a reclassification. All of the political push seems to be coming from Victoria and hopefully enough stink will be kicked-up to put this to bed. Having two SFP reps in the Vic parliament will help. I don't really give a damn about Adlers but worry that this will cause a return to looking at lever-action rifles etc, which would include some of our favourite sambar rifles.

Seems to be a bit of state rivalry at play here, have to wonder if a Vic based importer was beaten to the market by the Adler and resorted to... Its not as if certain factions in Victoria haven't set a precedent of throwing others under a bus if it suits their empire building Formerly Gun Barrel Ecologist

Anti's well never happy as long as any one but the government owns guns. Give them a inch and they well want a mile give them a mile and they well want 10 miles. We have learned to fight them at every step here and we have been winning more than losing. But we still have a long ways to go

Your NRA pays lobbyists with degrees in law and politics, here we use volunteers and those with the skills required to take the fight to the Antis are soon left so flabbergasted by internal politics that they walk away... Formerly Gun Barrel Ecologist

If we accept in the definition of shooting the style shown in Von Gruff's videos, all bets are off. If we extend it to fixing aids on to a single-shot, too, then it might also be fired with fair speed. I still believe the status image in the mind of the maniac is the main reason mass murders with guns have ceased for the moment in Australia. Since assault rifles are the default weapon in most shootem-up video games, the game-fed lunatic has to have one before he takes his "face from [this not-so-]ancient gallery". If your allegation of commercial bad blood can be substantiated, GBE, I'd like to hear more. A PM would be welcome, though I'll be up the bush all next week.

Nope most of are gun rights activist are just plain old folks that volunteer their own time and money. Here is a link from one rally in AZ. http://gunwatch.blogspot.com/2...february-second.html I am in the black suit and tie It would be hard pressed to find any one of the thousand or so there that was a paid lobbyist. You can't see it but I have a so call assault weapon hanging from my shoulder. Most every one of the activist had rifles or pistols on. These events take place all across the country.

This from SSAA-WA.... Member Information SSAA WA has received a lot of inquiries regarding ongoing comments in relation to the apparent information coming out of a recent meeting of representatives from State & Territory Firearms Registries. It been suggested that there was “in principle” agreement reached that lever action shotguns will be changed from Cat A upwards as follows: - shotguns with magazines that hold 5 shots and under will be category B, and - shotguns with magazines that hold more than 5 shots will be classified as category D. It is also unknown whether this is purely for the new Adler brand shotgun or indeed retrospective for other models We need to advise members that this information has NOT been confirmed at this time. SSAA National is continuing to lobby in regards to the recent announcement to review the NFA. They will be meeting with the AG’s department (and others) in the coming weeks. We would also like to point out that none of these recommendations (if true) will be considered until the next COAG meeting in 2016. Also if and when the need arises this issue will have to be challenged at a state level as every state and territory which has different legislations in place. We will be strenuously opposing any such changes if indeed we get factual confirmation at a national level Currently in WA we have a firearms review in progress and we have been closely involved in this already. We have also been advised the discussion paper is only weeks away. Please know that SSAA WA will actively oppose any negative changes and will continue to work to protect our members and all shooters interests. GBE: The NRA is over 5 million of US members who all pay dues and donate what we can in support of our 2nd Amendment. IF every one in every country stood together as we do this crap would be much more controlled as it is over here. Dean: I'm proud of you man! Matt: You can't do it alone, you guys have found that out a long time ago. Get something put together with as many as you can and make a big stink about the fk'd up laws over there and you'll make 'em change course. BUT, it's going to take a bunch of you guys to get any attention. George "Gun Control is NOT about Guns' "It's about Control!!" Join the NRA today!" LM: NRA, DAV, George L. Dwight

We have a few independents in the Senate and state upper houses these days, George, who stick up for shooters but the parties tend to vote as blocks, so individual reps can't be manipulated in quite the same way by lobbies. Also, compulsory voting puts the power in the centre of the polity rather than at the edges. Political corruption certainly occurs here but the people hate it and would not willingly reward representatives who allowed themselves to be made creatures of lobbyists - unless they're from the coal industry

Hopefully all of the pressure being applied in different directions (to the states mainly) will see this squashed to nothing. Even the ACT has back-peddled on their original statement, that the Adler's would be automatically 'banned' in that province- due to their magazine capacity. There was never intention for lever shotguns to be anything but Cat A and any ideas to the contrary are simply a direct shot at legal firearm owners. Quite a few states have already said they will not be recategorised, so hopefully that is enough - when the bastards put their heads together in conference. Good luck to you guys the fight never ends we have found it is better to be on the offensive than the defensive. If some one could introduce some pro firearms legislation it really throws the anti's off their game. It was worked well here.

Most of the 'gains' we have made in the last 20 years are in pro hunting legislation, some implemented, some not. What this has done is help give a huge boost to firearms ownership in Australia - something that has really made the antis blood boil. More firearm users = more power. We just have to get everyone voting for the Shooters & Fishers Party and add to our 4 sitting representatives and their political pressure.
