Just wondering if the experienced importers in the group could weigh in on the subject of bringing 408 chey tac brass/projectiles or preferably even loaded rounds into Australia

Warren jensen the brass/projectile maker in the US told me he could export to here at one stage but then changed his mind.

I was thinking one of the separate businesses who mail between countries for private owners might be able to buy and send ammo or components too?

Appreciate any suggestions. This is for a friend who is going for the whole tactical timberwolf set up from PGW.

Karl.

Re my 416sw, I'm getting a new full length resizing die made and will see what happens then.
Still waiting for Nigel to get the Hornerber 505 cases.

Boyd posted a link to the new site on just about every forum here. I checked it out one time, it requires regestration just to lurk (I don't mind that feature on a "adult" forum, but on a gun board?).

The .408 Cheyenne Tactical cartridge is based on the 505 Gibbs parent case. It uses a 419 grain projectile that is claimed to retain its supersonic velocity at ranges beyond 2000 metres . At ranges beyond 700 metres the projectile has more energy than a standard .50 Browning mg ball projectile.

The part I like in the description is the bit that goes " The entire idea behind the Chey-Tac LRRS ( Long Range Rifle System ) is to provide long range soft target interdiction - ( read ; anti-personel sniper ) - rifle package....

I have some dummies of the round , with the military headstamped cases , not the Bertram ones , and loaded with the correct Lone River Arsenal (?) 419 grain projectiles . These have no primer or powder so I could post you one if you want , or I can bring them to Qld next month when I am there.

If I was wanting to shoot the rifle here ( Aussie ) , or make one , then I would be using Bertram Brass cases cos they are in Oz already , and save the aggro of importing fom elsewhere .

Thanks for the info Muzza.
Aussies aren't able to own a .50BMG rifle,but the .408CT is fine.
I love the irony.

..."beyond 700yds"....ha ha ha,f'ing ha ha.
The words "na na nana na" spring to mind.

Try emailing Sinclairs (or bronos shooters supplies,or lock stock and barrel)to see if they will handle it for you. I know you will have to pay a fair bit to get them to do the paperwork to export cases and projectiles (dont even think about loaded rounds) but if they will handle the LRBT bullets you would at least be able to get them into OZ. It has made things pretty hard now to get them to export bits ,but some places will still go through the rigmarole. When you are ready to put the order through ,ring customs for a "709R,907R,907A or something like that" form to get permission to import.Fill out the form and they willl mail you a permission to import form.(Cant remember the exact terminology). When the goodies get to customs in OZ ,if they do get pulled up (sometimes happens) ,customs will send a letter asking for your paperwork. Send them the permission to import form and they will send the bits. Its pretty easy from our end as long as they can organise it from their end. By coincedence ,I have emailed LRBT earler today about some .224 projectiles ,so I will be going through the same thing soon.

Tailgunner

Had read about Boyd etc here on the Match King is not a hunting bullet thread I think it was. Have been over to LRH think Boyd was one of the ones that left because there used to be a forum Ultra long range hunting and the moderators took it off so the Ultra long rangers cracked it and left. I may have some of this wrong as I have not read a lot of the post over there.

Do you know the new site they formed? Would like to have a look.
