Heres my son Matt with a racoon he shot last evenings in the salt marsh of South Carolina. Shot it with a .270 Winchester , which is a bit of overkill but the deer werent being very co-operative.

Apparently some Americans are a bit wary of them. I was fishing in the dark on the bank of the Missouri once when something made a noise beside us. My mate jumped as though he'd trodden on a snake, for fear it was a raccoon. Turning the torch on we saw a small possum with a bare tail, which my companion said was nothing to worry about.

Our possums are originally central American warm weather animals so no fur on tail or ears. They have spread north so here in NY state they get frostbit ears .
Both racoons and possum [Opossum properly]are all over here.
When the Daniel Boone TV program was popular I knew someone who got real racoonskin caps for his kids. The kids complained they had been attacked by .The father thought about the caps , put one on and was immediately attacked by blue jays !! rotflmo

I GO POGO was the button we wore when the cartoon possum ran for president .He would have made a good one !

Here's all about POGO's world and his wildlife friends !

The young fella is chaperoning his aging parents on a grand circuit tour of the USA , Bakes. Currently he is dragging us around Disneyworld in Orlando , Florida ( YAH - NOT :-( ) and after 3 days of this joy we return to the South Carolina marshes for another week of mosquitos and deer stands.

Hope to bag a whitetail each , and maybe the coyote that keeps appearing on the trailcams....
