eagle27They're not actually 'camps' in the normal sense of the word, they are hotels setup with extra security and police to ensure 'detainee's' maintain their quarantine for 14 days.
Everyone returning to NZ now has to have a government quarantine booking pass before they are allowed to board an incoming flight and of course only returning New Zealanders or foreigners with special exemptions are allowed into the country.
And so it should be after we all went through a severe period of lockdown to get Covid out of the community and can now enjoy Covid free freedom of movement around the country and in our lives. Sure there is an economic hit but there is too for every country that has Covid in addition to the death and misery it has caused and continues to cause in those countries.
Despite optimism from some, it seems from new information out now that any immunity seems to be short lived therefore a vaccine is not likely to be of benefit, Covid is here to stay for a considerable time yet.

Following that logic isn't New Zealand simply delaying the inevitable introduction and explosion of cases or is New Zealand planning on staying locked down to foreigners forever?

I can tell you we are in deep shit. From what I saw yesterday, Our government has been totally incompetent.
I just spent 9 hours In hamilton hospitals Accident and emergency unit. Despite having had half a year to prepare for Covid- which they themselves tell us is really bad- there was such a staff and bed shortage at NZ's biggest hospital, that patients were being treated sitting in reception! Listening to the conversations was incredible. " I have a patient with chest pains who needs a bed in cardiac." "Cant you find an empty bed somewhere?" "How about if we stick them in the hallway?" " You dont eve have a bed we can put in the hallway?"

Ask Britain that question today as they head into a four week lockdown. A country overcome by a pandemic is going to be thoroughly screwed financially too, probably better to be healthy and screwed rather than unhealthy and screwed.

How about Sweden? As an AR member from Sweden told me concerning COVID...... "Our government treated us like adults".
Essentially they were given known facts and could choose their lifestyle comfort level on their own.
Well done Sweden!!

SargPart of that is true, my UK buddies are crying & say scare mongering !
Yes seems better to be healthy & poor than unhealth but it is a little like being on a Desert Island or worse in a life boat, sooner or later you need to strike out for shore or die any way unless rescued & by the looks rescue could be by cannibals as the vaccine may be useless !
I have had C19 & was hoping to be immune but doesn't look that way now dang it !
