we had been talking about a trip out to see each other and have a hunt for longer than i can remember, Dan and my last trip out together was September last year and we had a ball on an eradication pig shoot thru CPM.
with the wet looming and 2 more donkey trips to go, i was running out of weekends to see dan and sandy, before access becomes cut off.
well it was now or never, unfortunately the boss was having her soccer presentation nite on Saturday so she piked but i was happy to take the kids as they have been wanting to "go bush" for weeks.
the 8 hr drive out was fun, 82 wee, drink and "i'm hungry" stops later, we pulled in to dan and sandys place. on the way out we stopped for a look at what the locals call "Jurassic park"

we thru the kids into bed and had a chat for the evening, mostly spent perusing dans collection of abstract (rusty) firearms
we got up at kiddy pace, had "bweckfwast" got dressed, coated the kids in sunscreen and headed off for a drive.
not far from home we followed a spring fed creek line with the intention of picking off a nice "pinky" buffalo, for the fridge, not far along it became clear that finding them wouldn’t be a big issue.

(dont you love how i take the photos whilst the animal is standing broadside )
but the day was young and we left the smaller animals for later in the day and cruised along to see if we could bump a pig out of the long grass.
76 wee, drink and "i'm hungry" stops later. dan spotted a group of pigs wallowing down on the water, i jumped out and grabbed the 45.70, loaded with 405g woodleighs at 2050fps for buff, they were more than enough for pigs. I let fly on 3 pigs and flattened them, the kids were as excited as if I had offered them a bag full of lollies.

the afternoon session had us out looking for that “pinky” buff. We ended up bumping off 2 and hacked off the back legs and back straps rite on dark to head back home and rest the meat overnight.
In the morning we butchered the back legs and by that time it was nearly time to head back home, but before then we had to head out for one last “quick look” we ended up bumping a couple of pigs in the thick grass on a stalk to have a look at a few more buff, but you shoot what you see. So the pigs got served some woodleigh medicine.
We ended up hitting 3 more, one with dans 44mag the 240g magtech bullets looked the goods, hitting just behind the shoulder and taking the edge off the scapula on the off side, ending under the skin on the off side, for a emphatic kill. Im just about ready to go have a look at one of those 44mag things……
It was well after 3 by the time we actually loaded up and headed off for home, the kids just didn’t stop yapping in the back seat about “shooting the pigs” and all the Buffalo's we saw, but mostly about chasing the donkeys in the car, the to’s don’t want them shot so we had to drive around them and the kids thaught it was hilarious as they kept running around and ended up infront of us again and again.
It wasn’t until we hit Katherine (and a belly full of red rooster) before they settled and went to sleep. So at least the last 3 hrs was peaceful for the poor driver.
Didn’t get in until just on 11 pm so loaded up the beer fridge with meat to set and off to bed.

Big thanks to dan and sandy for the accommodation, babysitting and meals and for making us feel so welcome.

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

What a set of memories you have given your kids. Great couple of days for all,... and a fridge full at the end of it. Happy kids, happy wife and happy hunter, you got the trifecta.
