I assume that she was a member of the SOE? Violette Szabo could presumably have lived this long. Peter. Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death. Safeguard the helpless and do no wrong;

She is one of Thousands that were True heros in WWII. May she RIP. I have had the oppertunity to talk extensively to many WWII Veterans. I have been close friends with several. Their dedication, bravery, and heroism is... Well JUST like the men and women we have serving in the Gulf War today... We owe our Freedom to "those People", from back then to today... And IF you think about IT, it is up to US to elect a Commander and Chief, the will command them properly... WE Failed them last election, IMHO... However, THEY HAVE NEVER FAILED US. The first volunteer batallion to be formed in Oz at the commencement of WW2 was the 2/31 Batallion, formed from volunteers in NSW & S.Aust. of the 1000 men who set sail for the Middle East only 16 came home to their families by way of battles in SE Asia. 16 came home ........all 1000 did their duty to their country for the cause of freedom. Lots of people with short memories & misguided perceptions of the price of freedom in society today. I was one of the lucky ones..........I wouldn't be here if my father had not survived, but he passed from his injuries when I was a youth. Far too many in society today take the language we speak & the type of society we have for granted. They fail to understand that throughout the history of mankind and into the future , that freedom must be defended & won .........its not granted. It is won by those who serve. It is granted by them.......to those who don't. RIP Nancy........you did more than your share of duty.

Very sad, one of the last. Had the honour of hearing her speak at a dining in Night at my unit and even in her late 70's / 80's she was still as fiery as ever. It was a pleasure to meet her. Some of the exploits that she told were just mind bogglingly brave. May she RIP. .

Grateful thanks there 500N. Now I will have to track down her book, "White Mouse." The "Telegraph" link also has led me to another source of stories unknown to me. Thanks again. .[/QUOTE]
