As I mentioned in a posting,I was pissed off by only being able to get to ZA with QANTAS. So approached air mauritius.Decided to give them ago. Standard paperwork regarding Australia. Remember the days when you got a A709B or was it B709A checked with customs at the airport, got it stamped and pissed off. Not any more Now you need dispensation from the bloody defense department. The Mauritions however fell over backwards to help They couldnt of been more helpfull, Numerous Airline Officials and the good Inspector Breakstone, greeted us on arrival in Mauritius. Guns ammo checked and put into police custody. It took, time but courtesy was paramount. We left a week later, checked in early having picked up rifles etc from the Good Inspector Breakstone. Handshakes all round "come again gentlemen" Then to Africa where the rules have been changed, got that sorted, drove up to Zim, Buggered around for a week, had to take extra fuel food etc, pot hunting good fun, back to SA, Old mate had the blood lust after Zim so went down to Freestate for some plains shooting. Ted OM,learnt a interesting lesson. 9.3 TUG projectiles bugger the meat on springbok. Went up North and I cracked a nice buff. Great PF (Pucker Factor) hunt. Large amounts of Rum and Irish consumed, about 12000 Klicks by buckee about Zim and South Africa.5 weeks in Africa and a week in Mauritius. Totaly battered scratched cut etc 2 old farts planning trip via Mauritius to Namibia. It pays to have a good PH in Africa. Ted and I had a ball. When I figure this computor caper I will post a photo of buf etc. M,Dhala

Mdhala Sounds great. Is it better to stop over in Mauritius on the way over, or the way back?! From your story, I read you drove up into Zim from South Africa. Where did you manage to get some hunting? Buffalo in South Africa? Please tell more. Looking forward to it.

Depends on what you want to do. I have been to SA and Sim quite a few times. Mauritius is a great place to chill out after a hectic trip. Some first class hotels on beaches etc. I had been there before and had a great time. You can actually hunt deer and pigs in Mauritius. Driven Game I believe. Fishing terrific. I have over a number of trips got 2 buffs in SA and 1 in Zim. In Zim up near Melindee Junction and in SA around Timbavati. I had a possibility of a non trophy bull elephant in Zim, but hunt got buggered up Bloody Binga is a long way to go for FA but we had a lot of fun . An old mate breads carnivores and they have to be fed.Mainly Baboon and Camelleopardis the odd eland. Cant say that it is sporting but a lot of fun. Back in SA I have friends in the Freestate, So my old mate spent his time nailing all manner of Gods Furry Game, Springbok, redbok etc. North he shot Blesbuck, Redhartbest, Zebra etc. Then we went up near Kruger to an area that I have hunted before. Mainly thorn bush on the flat and River reeds in the creeks and I managed to get a decent old Buff. Good fun for two geriatric old farts.

Mdhala Sounds like you gents had a great trip! How was the crossing at Beit Bridge? In South Africa recently I read quite a few horror stories about crossing the border there and how people were getting ripped off.

MLG... Not wrong, its a bastard. Touts Urgers Conmen. Gunschecked bothways as I remember. PH has been through so many times now it all went sweet. Timeing is all. On the way in 3 trucks stuffed with border jumpers being exported back from SA arrived. Tme South Africans ship them back over the Beit bloody bridge by the truck full. Messina is a rocking town on thw SA side. They have food there and fuel. Its a shame that Zim is rooted it will probable get worse,if thats possible, after that bastard Mugabe goes.

Mdhala Yup I can just imagine. I was born & brought up in Bulawayo. It was just such a fantastic country. Such a shame. Now we are lucky enough to be living in Aus and love the place & the people! Glad you enjoyed your hunt there though. I used to fly into Binga on a regular basis during the closing years of the Rhodesian era. Great part of the country and wonderful for hunting! mlg

Binga. Bloody Binga. Waited in that goddam garden of Eden for three pissy days at $FA for 4 of us plus tracker. Never seen tree frogs that look like bark. Catch all manner of things when used as bait. Had a great time, met up with blokes from all over. I hate to tell you,Bulawayo has had the raw prawn. The bastards even have road blocks going out of town. In Zim I normally use a company run by Sean Steyns, but he was killed in a motorcycle accident. His father Basil is a decent bloke and a mate. Consequently Daughter in Law and Boyfriend semi run business. Warning AVOID any dealings with Mr W Jardine or Rebecca Steyns, Anyhow that another bloody story. The only thing that saved us,was nailing odd species of lion food. Getting pissed on Mauritian rum, smuggled in in the buckee. There is beer about but Irish or Good Rum is a pain. Basils lion cubs are a pain in the arse when they decide your bedroom is theirs. A Govt gentleman was having a dirty weekend at the Lodge when the cubs decided to walk in. We all pissed ourselves. The other assorted wildlife is interesting and I am not talking in any sexist way. But some of those young ladies in South Africa made my old mate and myself quite lustful. Good thing about being a senior, the mind is willing but the flesh is limp. Bugger. M,Dhala
