Who has them? Good no good? what do you think of them in general?

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Have owned a few pair and found them comfortable for my wide feet and for use on Mountain terrain. However I have seen my share of Sole "brake down" or de lamination. I think this is partly due to lack of use out of hunting season. Like car tyres the rubber can fail in not in use for extended periods.
Haven't seen this problem with the likes of Scarpa though.

I have the Dovers and have been very happy with them for hunting here in Canada. I would steer clear of the Canada Pros though if you come accross them. Apparently the newer ones have a poor grade of leather and are prone to leak or stretch.

Like having a small BMW from each foot tu2 order them online from England and you will save close to half what they cost in NZ/Australia

For what it's worth I have a few observations I can pass on. Super comfortable and very well made. For the first couple of times I would get someone else to lace them up for you - I know this sounds stupid but they appear to mold in around the tongue area and if you don't set this up square to start then it never comes right. I don't use dubbin on mine as this grows mould in the warm climate - I use a product called "snow shield" and rub it in with a rag.I've kept mine in the back of the truck when not on my feet and havent noticed any delamination yet (3 seasons). Every other boot I have owned has come unglued before I've worn them out and apparently the glue often used is not happy in our humidity. I stuff them with newspaper if they get saturated and let them dry away from direct heat. My Makalau's are great for steep siding country where you want support and grip but I prefer a softer boot when hunting the flatter country - I've been using Hi Tec Swat boots until they put a stupid zip up the sides. I will be trying the new lighter Meindl model that came out in recent years. My hunting buddy is a German who buys his Meindl's back in the fatherland and although they aren't the export models that we see I am super impressed with the service he gets out of them and the resole service he gets from Meindl every couple of years. One other point - don't buy without sizing them properly first. I went up a half size from my normal fit and my mates have found the same - so if buying on line or mail order - make sure you can return them for another size if necessary. Can't think of a bad word about these apart from the price but all quality costs. ( My sister in the UK bought the lady burma model and is rapt with them).

best boot in the world, i have been using them for 15 years and they have never let me down, quite easy to waterproof if you remamber to give the leather some oil now and then.

i highly reccomend them, but do check sizes as when right it is a dream, when not it is a complete nightmare.

best

Ive found them great to , but the Desert Fox is a little too lightly built , I mean will not be so good to work in , you will get wet feet , even if a bit of dew on the grass !

I got the Meindl Ibex from Cabelas , which is a water proof , slighly stronger boot & they are great.

They is a Thorp or some thing like that model out now in NZ & that is just right .

Where you are , those Hi Tec would be good , I wore a pair out each season on the Buff & Banteng (walk a lot on Banteng) but water in them blow them out .

In general they are good - but the most important thing: they must fit - and I found out for me the Meindl´s are too wide for my feet. Same class of quality is HanWag, which are a bit narrower in general.

From the quality issue and the fitting the Scarpa boots are my dream - they are fitting my feet exactly AND from the craftmanship they are one step better and finer made then the Meindl and Hanwags

Only thing I would never ever take again are Lowa shoes: borken soles (which was not a single issue) and a very BAD warranty department...

Good luck

Klaus

This is the only boot I use as it suits my foot.
I like them very much, and wear them almost every day, I get through a pair a year on average. Usually the leather fails before the soles. One word of advice, avoid the models that have stitched sides. The stitching always gives way, even though the Meindl people swear black and blue that this impossible. I like the one piece leather models.
The model I like best is the Himalaya GTX.
As for being waterproof, yes for the first 5-6 trips, but after that, they are like any other leather boot, you have to keep applying snow seal or similar.
I have never had a sole delaminate.
Have used them for the past 10 years or so.

I have had a couple of pairs of Lowa's and have only good things to say about them. I am about to replace my "work" pair and they have done four years on the building site as well as on the hill. I enhance my boot protection by adding 1/3 bees wax to the comercial oils in a bees wax leather dresssing. Never had wet feet and about the most comfortable boot I have had in nearly 60 years. Even have a pair of thier hiking boots for dress boots.

I have had a pair from Cabelas for 8 years. They have a lot of support for ankles and arches.

My only complaint is that they are a little heavy. It is not enough of a problem that it keeps me from using them however. The support is worth the weight.

ALLEN W. JOHNSON - DRSS

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.
