Allright Guys, here is something different, say you have an untracable illegal firearm, do you hand it in to the goverment buyback scheme? or hang on to it?
purley hypothetical of course
I am talking more of the past Semi-auto buybacks, rather than the recent hand gun buyback,
What say you?

Personally I wouldn't discuss it at all on an open forum.

Would think handing it in would be the lawful thing to do.

BIG fines Choppa, plus loose you firearms licence.
Sell it to a gunshop, they will buy it from you.You will have to fill out a form to the effect that you got it from you dear departed Grandfather who had it for years, etc.
Worked for me.

Not worth the risk, It only takes one person who knows about it to let slip. And if that person developes a grudge against you, well....

Hypothetically speaking what are you doing to do when they raid your house?

I,m no perfect angel or anything ,so I,m not doing just because John Howard says I have to ,but if I get caught with an illegal gun,I would probably loose all my other guns as well. So maybe if it was safley buried, I would keep it hidden.

I dont reside in the Peoples Republic of Australia , but even here in little old Noo Zeeeland I wouldnt be opening my mouth too wide on the subject of unlicenced/illegal firearms , not even in my closest circle of associates . We dont have the same manic laws that you guys do , but we still have a basically anti firearm government and you simply dont trust anyone on gun related matters in this day and age . Over here you are guilty until you prove yourself to be innocent on firearms related attention from the Police , and they dont leave you your favourite rifle if they come visiting.

My suggestion is close your mouth firmly and do what ever you were planning in the dark of night and on your own . The consequences arent worth it , and every legal gun owner will suffer the consequences of fools with big mouths .

Too bad if that seems tough - do you want to be the guy who destroys private gun ownership in your State / Country?

My answer was what is "lawful" as a matter of fact only BTW.

I wonder if any of our overseas readers here what their opinion is of our answers, and our paranoia about the Australian Thought Police.

My comment on raids was based on a comment from a copper a while ago. He mentioned the some of the city cops were up that day locally to raid a house because they had a RUMOUR the firearm owner in the house had sem-auto rifle(s).

Nothing was turned up BTW.

In todays Australia expect a knock on the door in the middle of the night if you are a LEGAL owner of firearms, or come home to find your house ransacked.

Purely hypothectical of course; every citizen is as honest & law abiding as the day is long!
What happens to the estimated 20 million rounds of handgun ammunition that the government won't buy back. Will it be filtered down through the pubs & clubs to feed the estimated 18,000 illegal handguns on our streets or end up in the rubbish for some kid to find?
