So how is this going to affect firearms ownership and hunting now that you have a change of leadership - or will it be more of the same ?

Will largely depend on the Senate make-up and control, as far as I can see. The Federal govt has very limited day-to-day influence on such things but long-term can have a larger effect. Importation, border security, funding anti-groups, etc.

The problem I can see is that, in the Senate, the Shooter votes were stripped by other parties and handed to the Greens (among other conservative votes)... even though the Greens had a reduced primary vote. thumbdown

G'Day Fella's,

Good question Muzza?
Only time will tell???

One thing I do know is, most Australian gun owners, don't care much for their sport and recreation!
Well, not enough to change who they vote for, just once in their life!!!

I might need to start looking at some NZ Real Estate web sites again!!!

Muzza, apparently the new PM's Mrs is a Kiwi!

Doh?

The real question is "Do we have to call you Senator Graham?"

Interesting you say that Homer. I voted for the Shooters and Fishers Party but out side of internet forums you wouldn't know they existed. Not every hunter and fisherman is a member of the few web sites that push the party. I saw adds for the greens (hack spit) adds for bloody Clive Palmer and adds for the majors, those people also got air time on the news and breakfast TV. Never saw a mention about the S&FP.

The Greens seem to have been weakened in the Senate, replaced by right-wing unknowns because they went under every party's radar. I read that they haven't even started to count the metre-wide Senate papers filled out below the line.

Otherwise, Matt's summation seems fair enough.

That is far from the truth Bakes. Anyone who lives in NSW and hasnt heard of the SFP - doesnt read the papers or watch the TV news. They have held the balance of power there for a long time. SFP-MLC elected in WA earlier this year... big news there. SFP is known in various quarters... not just internet forums.

But yes you are correct. They did not run media advertising this election - they do not have the budget for that. NSW state election is a different story. Hopefully these successes can be repeated around the country in future.

Better than a (spit) green... but he has a long history of doing stoopid things... like using Ivan Milats sister as a candidate. The fact that concealed carry is his primary gun issue (it seems) - should ring alarm bells.

Hopefully he can and does use this position for good though...

It takes dedication from all concerned. IMO we all should join SFP and support them in any way we can.

G'Day Fella's,

That is unfortunate Bakes!

Also, I'm left with the impression that most people are as Dumb As Dog Shit, which I believe was highlighted by various aspects of the election results???

Double Doh!!

The bottom line is that despite the supposed profile of the Shooters & Fishers party in NSW they achieved less than a quarter of a senate spot quota in primary votes whilst suffering a split platform with another similar party
After full attribution of preferences they missed by one spot & totaled about 3/4 of a senate spot quota , where the S&F preferences then flowed very strongly to the Libs.........to get the last lib over the line.

with concern about the anomalies that can occur in the proportional representation preference voting & likely change to preference voting rules by the next fed election ........its unlikey that less than a quarter senate spot quota as a primary vote will result in anything like the final post-preference outcome this election
For success a much higher profile by S&F is required.

In the meantime ,in this parliament , we can hope that the significance of S&F preferences in determining the last senate seat from NSW is not lost on the Libs.

reading the preference distributions for the Senate is far worse than voting below the line Smiler

I quickly lost any incentive to look at anything outside NSW ....... from a S&F perspective , that was depressing enough.
