I've had a set of Lyman scales for a long time and I like them. was talking to a bloke who bought a Lyman electronic scale dispenser and he reckons it was worth the money as it saved time ans was (probably) more accurate than the way he used to load them. The price I was quoted in Horsham was more than the cost of a new rifle but I see they are advertised o's at about the $250 mark (US). Has anyone used them or better still, own one here? Are they worth forking out a big slab of money for? And if they are, where would the best bet be to look for one? Is it better than other makes? I mainly read up on the Lyman. But RCBS seems to have a pretty much identical unit. Thanks for any suggestions.

O'Reilly's in Melbourne have the RCBS available for $630. Looking at the US stores, and allowing for shipping, it would probably cost around $530 (item plus shipping) to get hold of a 220 volt version (RCBS) out of the USA, and that's assuming no 'extra' charges from the shipping companies. My inclination is to pay the extra to get a warranty that's good in OZ. I can't give you the address, but I did find a web comparison of a number of these scales. From memory a mark against the Lyman was that the reviewer though it was harder than the others to clean all of the powder out when you were switching loads. My plan is to go with the RCBS. Ah, this might help Dispenser comparison

I have the RCBS unit. It's a breeze to use, easy to clean and store. I regularly check mine with check weights and to date it has been spot on. I load for the 303 B and 308 win and can knock up a round in less than 30 seconds. I seat the projectile while another load is dispensing and only have to wait a few seconds for the charge to meter. In my opinion it is well worth the outlay. rob "the older I get, the better I was"

I`m going to save my sheckles and buy one, using a lee powder thrower and scales is marginally okay when loading for a rifle ( I did say marginally ) but it sucks arse when you wanna do a few hundred .357`s... reading lines like the one above just strengthens my resolve to get one.. That is a very good site I also concur.

The best and most accurate powder measure I purchased in 1970 is the OHAUS DU-O-Measure with a single drum for rifle and pistol but they were double the price of all powder measures at the time and eventually were discontinued.I found another on ebay and bid winning it.They throw exact flake and ball powder charges for pistol and rifle, the Hodgdon short cut extruded powder feeds a bit better . I use it with my Dillon RL550B for charging the cases. The OHAUS PM was sold to RCBS and discontinued, big mistake as it's the best ever made.
