It grieves me no end to say but - I went to 'Straya Zoo on thursday arvo and despite a noted absence of the wonderboy his clones are all as obnoxiously hyped-up as him . Crikey seems to be the favourite phrase , and those terrible farmers and hunters are all to blame for the state of the wildlife in Australia today.

The place has an interesting selection of some aussie animals , no echidnas or marsupial mice or any of the rare species tho , but hey , he is getting into those indigenous species like camels and elephants and Siberian tigers - particularly hard to find a good tiger specimen in the outback these days ya know .... For a place called " Australia Zoo " there was a major shortage of aussie animals , but a fine selection of touristy junk in the TWO tourist traps on site , and for a mere $25 you could have your photo taken with a digitised image of the Wildlife Worrier.....

But I did relent and purchased the ultimate in bad-taste-gifts a "Steve Irwin wrestling a crocodile" keyring , made in China of course. Anyone interested may contact me for a digital image of Steve and the croc.....

Did I mention the cost to get in - $71 Aussie for two adults and a small boy. Think I will start my own zoo and become a media slut too , seems to be money in it ...

And finally - aside from the above aspects , it was a good day out , as a once in a lifetime excursion.....

The NT Wildlife Park sounds a better deal to me.

Can I get one of those digital images of Crikey-man with me giving him the finger?

Do they give tours, and if so can you ask the tour guide on info on the best place to shoot an elephant?

PS Do the staff all wear cheap and nasty king gee work clothes too?

Criky; those bloody Toyota service centers charge zillions. No wonder Aussies don't go there

Yes, there is no doubt that Rex is a wanker but not as bad as Steve Irwin. The best fishing show on Aussie Tv, these days, would have to be Escape with ET. Andrew Ettinghausen is a very personable presenter who does not go in for any wankerish nonesense. In addition, I am told that he is a shooter and young Kim Bain, who does some of the segments, is both a keen angler and hunter.

But back to the origin of this thread - after visiting the Viva and Save the Kangaroo websites, I just had to write them an email and tell them what I thought of their lies and bullshit. I know that it won't do a lot of good (there is no reasoning with those sorts of people) but I figure it is time to make a stand. What I said to them was....

Quote:

After visiting your website, including the save the kangaroo site, I just had to write to you and express my extreme disappointment at the blatantly false propaganda that the site puts forward as 'truth' and 'fact'.

I respect the wishes of those people who prefer not to eat meat, but to try and persuade other people to join your cause, through the use of lies and misinformation, is just not on.

Amongst your many 'hates' you also condemn the 'Code of Practice for the Humane Shooting of Kangaroos' - it is a pity that there isn't a Code of Practice for Truth and Honesty on the Internet because your organisation would surely be in breach, on a grand scale, of such a code.

For what it is worth; that is my two cents worth - I just hope that if enough of us tell them to pull their heads in, maybe some of them will!

Once again the tree hugging brigade are at it. Like the other responses, I`m a bit surprised that such an experienced bushman like Irwin would put his name to a load of crap like this.

Perhaps his experience is more in line with gathering funding for himself, rather than the poor wee fluffy creatures depicted on the website.

If Irwin is so knowledgable about rural Australia, then he would surely also realise that Kangaroos are bordering on plague proportions at this time.

Mainly due to the amount of water & crops that we have provided for their proliferation.

Apart from this though, maybe Mcartney should venture outside the tourist traps & parks created by entrepenuers like Irwin & see the real damage created by over population of Kangaroos.

Not to mention the sight of them starving to death in the droughts we seem to regularly endure here in Australia.

As shooters we`re all certainly up against it !

Beware of vegetarin musicians & wildlife park operators !

Better yet wait to see what Steve does when the large properties he has bought up become overrun with roos.

roos have no effect on sheep properties hey.... your kidding our property has an estimated 28,000 roos on it and during the drought we had no sheep at all but any single piece of grass that grew was taken by roos. if a dry property could sustain 28000 roos it could have supported us if we had no roos and that many sheep

Bakes you need to try surfing on another beach. Looks like you were at Bondi with the big load of turds you found .

Typical journalism....never let the truth get in the road of a good story. Of course we all know the real story, that if the roo population wasn't managed they would create one of the greatest ecological disaster the world has ever seen. Not a blade of grass or crop would exist in the west if they went unchecked. I think roo's gave leasons to rabbits on breeding!!!

Egads I just read more of the tripe on that site. #@)#(^&8 a load of shite.

They talk about the 6.5million roo harvest and the apparent 100,000 roos not taken humanely (ie one shot kills)....1,6% by my calculation.

They then quote some ex roo shooter (yeah I bet) that expounds on the lack of impact the harvest has on the actual population.

I know no-one here owuld ever do it, but I imagine the "unlawful" culling of roo's by recreation hunters probably accounts for 3 times the official harvest.

I think that would be a very conservative estimate, probably more like ten times.......

Most landholders I know that shoot roos just happy to gut shoot them cos, "That bastard will die!". same with pigs etc!
The unofficial cull by the farm boys would far exceed that of rec shooters.
