February 6th ( Waitangi Day )is the day the country celebrates the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi back in 1840 , between the chiefs of some of the maori tribes at the time and the Queens representatives . The political ramifications of that day will be a burden on the taxpayers of this country for evermore but thats besides the point here .

Personally I would rather see the effort put into ANZAC Day- April 25th - it has a much greater significance for more people than Waitangi day...
