I mentioned in my last post that we were conducting our last hunt for the year.

However one" switched on" hunter saw the trophy quality of the Banteng bulls we were harvesting and booked a last minute hunt.

The result speaks for it's self another monster to finish off the year !!!

Plus we found a monster that must have died last year that would smash the world record!!! Even in this state of decay its horns were 26 inches long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey there Peter, l would like to know your thoughts on setting up with a Bow combination for Buff, yours preferences or recommendations with bow poundage, broad heads and arrow weights?
Thanks,
Stewart

Don't know about Rowland Ward, but B&C and SCI both let trophies in as "found" or picked up, so it this one made the book, might be worth putting it in there, as shows another level of size. Is that a bullet hole in the skull, kinda looks like one. What round was the hunter using on the Banteng.. have always thought I'd like to hunt them. What do you recommend round wise. Thanks.

Not being a bow hunter, I'm sure there would be better people on AR to answer these questions.

However that said I've seen many hunters kill Buffalo and Banteng with 60lb to 90lb bows

using arrows from 550 to 850 grains.

Archery in evolving at a great rate of knots and every hunter I guide seems to turn up with different type of bow gear.

All of which is capable of doing the job if the hunters can hit where he is aiming at.

This hitting where your aiming seems to be where most bow hunters fall down.

So my best advise to any bow hunter or rifle hunter is you don't need to have the flashiest, newest gear on the market.

It's far better for you to be able to successfully hit exactly where you are aiming on "live targets" with the gear you have.

( Live targets ! that is.) Some people only seem to be good at killing cardboard boxes.

Remember if Fred Bear and Bob Swinehart could do it with the gear they had back in the day.

It should be a lot easier for you guys of today.

Cheers

No it's just a natural hole.

For some reason both Water Buffalo and Banteng when they reach old age, can develop these holes is their skulls.

You can not see them until you have boiled out the head.

They could be caused from fighting, where maybe a abscess develops ?

I have seen them on Buffalo as big as a fifty cent piece with the skull indented around it. Like it was hit by a meteor.

The hunter used a 375 H & H with premium bullets.

Which is what I recommend. A 416 is even better if you can handle it.

Two very outstanding Banteng bulls. The fresh one looks to have extra heavy bases and the pickup also has heavy bases with great mass the entire length of the horns. Are these from the Coburg or inland?

The hunting area is at the eastern end of the Cobourg Peninsula just outside the Garig Gunak Barlu National Park.
