Austalian Customs have a new range of fact sheets that include the necessary details and forms for visiting sports people who want to bring their own firearms into Australia. The following link will get you there. www.customs.gov.au/site/page4372.asp Thanks to SSAA for this update. | ||

Thanks for that - Important to note that for visiting hunters stopping in Sydney with firearms, rior to a hunt in another state (or after) - Customs at Sydney will not be allowing those firearms into the country OR to be held at the airport (as has happened previously), unless the hunter has a NSW permit. NSW does not have reciprocal arrangements for other states permits.... so at the moment they are issueing permits to do this (after the other states licence is issued) but it does involve duplication of paperwork and extra costs and hassle. There is an exemption on this for competition shooeters but it seems that hunters and other users have been overlooked in the exemption. I am trying hard to get this changed but it MAY require a change to the act so for now you will have to get the NSW permit, if stopping in NSW. This is not the case if you tour through QLD for example, they recognise other states permits and customs will allow you in there through Brisbane.
