You would need to be a psychologist, socialolist and HR expert to sort though that lot and throw in social anthropology as well. every country in the world has the same issue and has either dealt to them should be dealing to them or should be planning on dealing to them. Your not implying you don't have gangs in the US are you!

Highlander, let me explain. I lived in Ealing for 26 years of my life. If you don't know, Ealing was one of the places hit by the violence. I was simply asking about the situation in NZ, which according to the article has a higher youth unemployment than Britain. Yes, as I understand it, we have gangs in the USA. I regard the acts of the last few days in England as rioting and looting rather than "gang" violence which implies to me some kind of regular membership etc. rather than let's just get together, beat up some folks, burn cars and steal stuff. Peter. Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death. Safeguard the helpless and do no wrong;

This type of spontanious outbreak of vandalism and violence is nothing new. It happens everywhere, in most countrys and in most generations. It is the psychology of the mob and the causes don't even have to be defined. The size of the mob and the length of time it takes to subside, can also vary tremendously. We are over thinking this. How each society deals with such disturbances may be different, but ultimately the majority want to go about their business peacefully and unhindered and they use various mechanisms (the Police are one) to regain that status quo.

I think folk need to realize that often there are more people in one city in other countries than we have in our entire country. We just dont have enough people in one place to create much of that activity , even on a small scale. ________________________ Old enough to know better
