Our dealer rang me about a deal he is doing. 500 rounds of .22-250 for $240-00 Highland Sports. I think its pretty cheap. Prices on other calibres also very cheap. Cheaper elsewhere?

Remember, you only get what you pay for. I've never used highland ammo but a mate used it in 243 and wasn't real impressed with it, buy a box of 20 first to try it out and to see how it shoots in your rifle before forking out $240.

As Tumbo says, be careful.... I've tried Highland ammo in my 270, 22, and 22mag, and it shoots like shit... On the other hand, in my son's M70 in 243 it shoots like a house on fire - almost as well as tuned handloads!! Horses for courses I guess, but personally, I'd buy a box and try it before committing to any quantity. ******************************** A gun is a tool. A moron is a moron. We bought 200 rounds when we bought our .243 and it shot well. Reloaded the empties a few times and haven't discarded a case yet. Most of the loads we have used in the .243 have been very accurate. I can get around a MOA most times, son can do better but he is as steady as a rock compared to me. I know their 22 ammo is none too flash. Or not the two bricks we bought anyway. They are meant to have ammo or brass for the 6.5 mm Carcano but I haven't got any yet.

My .308 hates it, my .223 it`s so so. The brass is fine to reload though.

Tried some in my Hornet . 2300 FPS with the 45 grain SP . Hornet is rated at 2690 FPS and can be reloaded to 2900 . Rechambered to K Hornet and lost about 20% of cases when fireforming . Winchester brass wasn't a problem . The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood. I have found Highland to be very accurate in 30-06,and 7x57. I used the 7x57 on game. Never ever again, the lead was so soft it blew a pigs head to pieces and only penetrated to it's throat. There was total core disintigration and a largest piece of brass was like a crumpled washer. It was a not a good experience. I also found that barrel fouling very heavy, the powder burns dirty. Like the old Win 760 it takes a longer time to get the barrels clean after shooting just a few rounds. The best thing about Highland is that 7x57 and 6.5x55 cases are to CIP standards. They look to be good for a few reloads. Save your money Mate and get some decent ammo.

Oldun Interesting - I have some 9.3x62 factory ammo and wondered how good the projectiles would be. Like you I found it shoots well. I was hoping to hunt Sambar with it but will heed your advice.... I have just got some 250gn Woodleigh P/points which should do nicely though.

Oldun, yeah - I forgot about the barrel fouling issue... It's good cleaning practice for my boy though!! ******************************** A gun is a tool. A moron is a moron. A moron with a hammer who busts something is still just a moron, it's not a hammer problem. Daniel77

MLG, You might like to take a look at the European Hunting section. There is a review of 9.3 bullets, unfortunaly for us it's in Norwegan, however, I think the pictures are of some value. The Partizan which marketed as Highland down here should be or interest to you. It does not surprise me that they and the Selier & Bellot did not fair as well as others tested.

Locally PMC sells cheaper than Highland. I think its expecting a lot to want cheap price but premium performance ... if it shoots well in your rifle great, if not, try another brand. If your hunting Buff ... steer clear ... if your knocking goats ... probably great. Personally, I'd buy it for the brass and practice, as its been good in the 7.62x54R. Also considering buying quite a few bags of the Highland 150gr .30cal pills, again for practice in the new 308Win. Cheaper than Taipan which also foul quite a bit... soft jackets I suppose. Cheers... Never truer words were spoken, Con. We shot a fair number of rabbits on Sunday with it on some sand dunes (sandy rises) near here on Sunday. The longest shot was probably under 200 yards with a couple as close as 25. Good fun. The ammo shoots well in our Ruger- but I did clean out the barrel with Hoppes a couple of times. The brass seems OK to me. As I have said before, the ammo I got with our 243 has been reloaded a number of times. I am no hot rodder and prefer mild loads. Haven't discarded one yet. But as everyone knows, if you are going to be hunting the once in a life time animal, you buy the best RIFLE you can afford and the best ammo that suits it. If you are shooting for enjoyment, cost counts when you start to go through the rounds. This is our third .22-250. It still shoots well. I shot the barrel out on my first .22-250 Zastava (Mk 10 Mauser) in about 4000 rounds then sold it off. The second was a Winchester 70 with a few more rounds than that. The Ruger is going well with the number I have put through it. Think we will rebarrel this one. I really like the trigger, the balance of the rife. It fits me like an old, worn in boot!
