Con, by all means use them on sambar, but don't go for the arse shot, most probably blow the leg off, seen this on a large doe, but it did fall over and was then shot in the head. The 270gr hornady spire point served me well, usually complete penetration on sambar, give them a go. The 250gr taipan are like a 55gr bullet in the 22/250, absolutely mangles big grey rabbits. The 350gr taipan would probably be enough bullet for deer, but i have not taken one with these. I will be using 250gr hornady's in my 338w, for future sambar hunts. cheers 338win

Karl For a 416 bullet to expand on a roo is no recomendation, mind you I am driving the 400grs at 2800fps but I beleive PC is driving them at Rigby speeds. I have fired the Taipans into sandy soil and they completely flatten as in pancake like. A friend has fired the Barnes X into gravel (at Little River) at 2750fps and at 5yds they mushroomed nicely. I have fired the Taipans at 2800fps at 50yds into the gravel at same place and they were torn to pieces I will have to fire the Woodleighs into the sandy soil but I would be surprised if they failed like the Taipans. I use the Taipans because they are cheap and shoot well in the 416 I will not use them again in the 6mm.

The Woodleighs in .375 300 gr expand very nicely in sand/soil and also heavy game. If I was hunting sambar I think it is false economy to buy sub-standard projectiles or soft projectiles. Imagine loosing a stag of a lifetime. On the other hand I would be surprised in Taipans and similar would be doing a great job on ferals like pigs, goats, roos etc. I would have thought the mass and calibre width would kill very effectively even if the bullet came apart. At least that has been my experience using 220 gr FP in .375. Maybe I wrong? Has anyone tried Bertrams new bullets? He sent me some (in .450) to try out but I haven't given them a go yet.
