If you did, when you got your rego papers did it have the barrel length marked on it?
I bought a Vaquero .357 Mag. last month and when I got the rego papers the field for barrel length was blank. In January I had my wife's 92FS transferred into my name (after the buyback bus had measured the barrel) and the barrel length was recorded on the new papers.
Am I right in assuming that the Firearms Registry (NSW) haven't gotten their act together? I take it that I am going to need to find out where the closest buy back bus is and go and line up to have the 5 1/2 inch barrel measured?

Good to see the tax payers (me included) are getting value for money out of this farce....I mean scheme.

I'll call the reqistry in the morning and see what they can tell me.....

I recently bought a Colt Python and a Broomhandle Mauser but neither rego papers have come back yet. I'll be curious to see what it says when the regos do arrive.

NSW hasn't got its act together! What state has? UNI students on peice work do all the weapons branch paper sorting and I've never seen one that can find their way out of a railway tunnel at midday.

I just been going through my rifle list and the stupid bastards have erased 3 rifles. These were exact duplicate models of the same gun and calibre and someone must have thought they got it wrong and erased details. Now I got to sign a stat dec that I had them all along!
Dickheads????

Just checked www.handgunbuyback.gov.au and it looks like the link to the "Where is the buy back bus" hasn't been updated.
I'll see how long I can handle staying on hold calling the registry tomorrow, to speak to someone who may have an idea of what I need to do to sort this out.

Last time I called them to tell them the serial number ont he papers for my No1.MkII was incorrect. I was amazed to find out all I needed to do was send them a fax of the rego papers and a note telling them what the correct serial number was.
This didn't seem right and thought I had been given a bum steer, but decided to do as I was told.
I was expecting to have to go to a dealer, sign 3 trees worth of paperwork and wait several months for them to work out that the 5 should have been an S. Within a month I received new papers in the mail. Maybe they have worked out they can trust the licensed firearms owners?

If I can get through to a real person tomorrow, I'll post an update.

oneills,

Yes, Kimber are giving everyone the run around at the moment. I have had a Kimber on order for ages, too, and we just can't get them to respond in a timely fashion.

Accordingly, I have given up on the Kimber and am going to get a .38JWH built up instead. It will take some time, but will probably be still ready before the Kimbers get here!

You guys aren't alone. It can be hell getting even a bullet mouid into Canada. The American manufacturers just don't seem to want to ship to Canada ,or it appears, to Aus. I think I would lay the blame for this at the feet of our prospective governments. derf

....Haha, that's just Kimber mates, I'm still waiting on that Kimber Mauser Sporter I ordered from them back in 1998, and I live in the states. Tiny company, big backorders.....

Sorry to dredge up an old thread.
I called the NSW Registry today and told them my story. The lady who took the call said that if the Registry didn't have the barrel length on record, they would send out paper work to take to a dealer to fill in.
I figure they must be waiting for an update to their database for the barrel lengths. I thought they would have gotten a fair few Vaqueros through the system during the buy back, but then again maybe not.
She said I had nothing to worry about and that I would receive a letter with either updated details (figure this can only happen if they get something from Ruger listing Serial no. ranges and barrels lengths) or a form to take to a dealer. Whats' the bet I'll be heading off to a dealer some time with said form in hand??

BwanaBob, my gun dealer rang a couple of days ago to tell me that my Kimber is finally here. I had almost given up and was going to buy a STI.

Back to the handguns, I've got an Enfield revolver on its way from Iraq in a diplomatic bag as we speak.....

It'll be interesting to see what nearly 1 1/4 centuries of sun and sand, and the odd nefarious trip up and down the Euphrates stuffed up an arab's toga, has done to this old girl!
