Visted Strathburn around 10yrs ago.
At the time prices were Au$145/day(booked)$175/day(casual)single hunter,with guide&4wd.
Looking at their website,I see the price up to $660/day. http://www.strathburn.com/index.htm

Thats alot of do$h to hunt pigs. Even the larger group rate seems steep for a guy and his family to simply camp and explore.

Has anyone been there lately?
Are the same people running it?(NZ family)

Ridiculous pricing, absolutely ridiculous and I hope that Australian hunters aren't stupid enough to pay that.

You can hunt in Zimbabwe with a day rate that includes a PH, vehicle, skinners, camp staff and a lot more interesting animals to hunt, for only a little more than their two hunters rate!!

Bloody ridiculous!

That is outrageous!

The big trip I go on each year costs each bloke who goes $300 to $350 for 10 days away - that includes fuel and tucker. It's BYO grog.

For that we get anywhere up near 200 pigs (our record pre drought) and river full of yellowbelly.

The property is free access - they are glad to get rid of all the vermin, and also glad to have another half a dozen blokes driving around helping keep all the poachers and livestock thieves away. We even help with mustering if need be.

I can't imagine paying that amount of $$$$. I've only been on a pay property once - it was a rip off but then I had no option, and the whole thing was a disappointment game wise.

Myself & 3 mates decided to go for a once in a lifetime hunt to KENDALL RIVER STATION at the end of June this year.
This being due to our regular Western NSW property being in severe drought.
The trip was 2 years in the planning & was quoted at $160 a day per person, 3 flights to get there from Newcastle & 3 flights home again.
We booked a 6 day hunt.
After lunch on the 2nd day we unanimously decided to go home.
We had walked probably 25 km in the short time we were there & I shot one 75 kg boar, my mate shot one 30 kg boar.
That was it, we went Barramundi fishing with all the right gear, we caught zip.
We were confidently informed by the hunt operator/organiser that the place was teaming with big pigs & he quoted the minimum shot was 3 per shooter per day.
To add insult to injury prior to our departure we were charged $225 a day for the 2 days we were there.
In this we had no option but to pay the extra as the guide had control of the sattelite telephone we used to call the charter plane in from Weipa.

I can assure you after over 30 yrs experience in hunting NSW, I have never felt so ripped off as I had after that trip to KENDALL RIVER STATION Qld.
The guides weren`t bad blokes, but they didn`t really do much guiding when they learnt we had our own GPS, UHF radios etc & were all competent at what we were doing.
We got dropped off at a creek or river & let walk along it for 7-8 km till we found a car left waiting for us to drive back to camp.
WE did this 4 times.
The camp itself is basic but comfortable & the meals weren`t too bad either.

I can confidently say that our time at KENDALL RIVER STATION was not a good one & anyone planning a similar trip !
DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

Total cost for 2 days walking in the bush & 4 more days trying to re-arrange return flights getting screwed around by various airlines $1950 each - priceless.

Maybe things are different elsewhere I don`t know.
The emphasis is entirely on the almighty hunting dollar & the pricing of these hunts is commensurate with what the overseas hunters will pay.
The week after we left, the guides had a party of 4 Austrians arriving for a hunt @ $450 a day.

I can`t help but imagine what they went home thinking about Australia.

looks like the big numbers are on the increase in NSW as we got back yesterday and saw mobs of upto 45 pigs. Plenty of goats too.

Tasso i have family in Griffith and have hunted many time around there (last time being Mount Hope just past Hilston).

Anywayz im heading to Booligal in September hopefully on a new property, the owner reckons there are some boars around.

Should be good.
