I have heard that Australian dust is notorious for gumming up a rifles action and trigger mechanism. I have also heard that Winchester crf model 70's, Ruger MK2's and mausers do very well in these conditions. Any comments or suggestions? I live in the the US state of Wyoming which can be pretty harsh also. I am looking for a truck gun to take along everywhere and under all conditions.

My Winchester M70 (not a crf) once jammed up. Sold the piece of crap off.

My Mauser's have never had a problem.

Ruger M77Mk2, in SS & plastic stock. You will need to get the trigger cleaned up, but after that, they seem to be unbreakable. Mine (.270 Win) is on it's 5th BBL, and has never let me down.
There are others just as good, but the Rugers just seem to work well in our dusty or wet conditions.

The Mauser 98 was designed specifically for military conditions and has proven over many decades that it will function in dust and mud .
Rugers and CRF Winchesters borrow much of their design from the Mauser . Simple trigger on the Winchester too .

The guys are right the Mausers and Rugers perform well in dusty conditions - an often overlooked point with CRF's.

However, in reality if you take care of any hunting rifle and wipe it out after every session, dust shouldnt really be a problem. I use CRF's for dangerous game (backup rifle) because that is when positive extraction 'really matters' but for every day use there is no real advantage in CRF that I can see over other types of actions. Anyone who let's their rifle get so covered in dust, as to potentially create problems is just not taking enough care of them.

I know 2 shooters I know whose nice Sako's have jammed up from the Red Dust, may be coincidence I am not sure. Those Rugers are tough guns though.

I will add my 2 bobs worth-in Australia pigs are viewed as a pest so any method of eradication is "OK".
I have shot many pigs from the window of a speeding landcruiser across a recently harvested wheat paddock.The high speed vibration of the car plays havock with feeding.
FWIW a Mod 94 Win 30-30 is very good,a Mauser style feed is good if the mag has not been
stacked incorrectly in the great confusion that acompanies such events and push feed rifles-including the British Lee-Enfield and the Remington Mod 700 are shit house

Actually, I've had more problems with the variable power adjustment on my scopes getting clogged up with fine red dust than any rifle I have hunted over here.

Most of my hunting has been done with Sakos and a few Rem 700s. Never had a problem with either.

I used to have a Marine Magnum Remington Shot gun and a standard SPS Rem 870 pump it was nice looking and great for what your talking about. I would love to be able to have my pump shotties back..........................but we live in a dictatorship, as we know the criminals forgot to hand there pumps and semi's in
