I need to get my iBookG4 to work so I can copy saeed's videos.

I hope there is some one out there who can help.

My iBook can play Saeed's videos, can down load them on to the desk top.

But it will not accept DVD-R or DVD+R blank discs.

Put them in and it tries to read them then puts them out.

Yet it will copy to CD-R discs without a problem. Music and stuff.

I wonder what is wrong that it can play DVD's and down load them to the desk top, but cannot read new discs.

I have tried more than a few as it is very frustrating.

Are you saying that you can put in a DVD movie disk and it will play on your iBook, but when you put in a blank disk it won't recognize it?

What kind of drive is in your computer? A combo CD-R/W DVD ROM or a DVD-RW? If you aren't sure you can look under Applications>Utilities>System Profilier to find out.

It sounds like you have the Mac Combo Drive in which case you can burn CD's and play DVD disks, but not record to DVD.

We're getting there. In the System Profilier click into your ATA under Hardware to find your CD/DVD Drive. Here's what mine looks like for my G4 tower:

ATA-3 Bus:

PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109:

Manufacturer: PIONEER
Model: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109
Revision: 1.17
Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-RW
Disc Burning: Vendor Supported
Removable Media: Yes
Detachable Drive: No
Protocol: ATAPI
Unit Number: 0
Socket Type: Internal

You notice mine says this:

Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-RW

That means I can burn CD or DVD disks. I suspect that you have a drive that will burn CD, but only play DVD disks. If that's the case when you insert a blank DVD there's nothing to play, so it will be ejected. Hope this helps.

I did a google search for your MATSHITACD-RW CW-8123.

It's a CD burner (RW) and DVD ROM (DVD reader), so you can burn CD's but not DVD's.

So I'm pretty sure it doesn't find anything to read on the blank DVD disk and spits it out.

There are a lot of external firewire DVD burners on the market these days, which might be an option for you if you want to burn DVD's. They're not too expensive and the software needed to burn is pretty cheap as well.

I hope this solved your mystery.

Sorry GBB, Alasken is right, you can read (play) a dvd but not burn one.
Agood, inexpensive one is the Sony DRX-700UL, which I currently use on my Imac. Myers and K-mart both carry them (or did last year) so they should not be hard to find.
Call out if you need any help, OK?

Cheers, Dave.

Sorry, forgot to mention, the Apple G4 software to run it is a free download from Sony.
