I am in the USA and purchased a Tanner rifle for F-Class. Using components in the USA are there any recommendations out there? Is the .306 bore size a problem in shooting the .308 bullets? Also any recommendations for brass and dies?

Thanks

Ted:
Given the info you provide, a 7.5mm is .295" Conventional barrel geometry leads me to think the groove diameter would be around .303
A message to Tanner may yeild an answer. Slugging the barrel will tell you for sure. You might also ask for a reamer drawing in order to be sure of its design. I have no data for the chambering you name from any of the 8 book sources I have.

.306 barrels will shoot 308's in the 147 to 155 weight range, but that is on the extreme tight side. I use 307,3075/299,298 for 155 guns. 190's in a 306/10 twist was a no go.

Hope this helps

Ted,
I was introduced to the 7.5x55 at Camp Perry this year. Apparently the Swiss K31 is a favorite for the Foreign Military Rifle Match that is run in parallel with the Springfield Match from what I'm told by my Housemates. They told me there is EXCELLENT match ammo available in Berdan Primed cases. Apparently Boxer primed brass was costly and they'd only make par with the surplus stuff they had for quality and still be out reloading time. They had spam cans worth.

I realize the demands of the F-Class target are much greater than the 5-V these folks were attacking with their K-31's, so here's a few selections of what google turned up;

Interestingly, they talk about using standard .308 bullets.
Here's another that lists a source as the 7th Edition of Cartridges of the World. I believe that's the Frank Barnes book;

7.5x55 uses .308 bullets. And yes the GP-11 ammo is very good.

You might want to talk to Larry Racine, since he builds target rifles and 'smiths the K-31s.

I shot some Ruag Ammo that is showing up as surplus and it did well at 100 yards but fell apart at 300 meters. I am playing with some Berger 155 VLD buller and have good results at 300 meters. This is a very good rifle even if it is 46 years old. Nice trigger and sub .3 MOA out to 300 meters so far.
