Hello What do I need to get started in F Class? I have dies and brass for 308. Picked out three potential rifles. http://www.savagearms.com/10fp.htm http://www.savagearms.com/10fpmcmillan.htm http://www.savagearms.com/12bvss.htm Need advice on gear, scopes, spotting scopes, rests/bipods and clubs in the NW Oregon/I5 corridor that shoot these type of matches. If there are any websites that would have more info? Looking for an excuse to improve my shooting, have some fun and blow my tax refund. Thanks ZM

Those Savage rifles chambered for the .308 Win. have 1:10 twist barrels. Which means 200-gr. match bullets will probably shoot the most accurate in them. Not a problem as Corky Tyson set the current 600 yard prone (not F-class) metallic sight record some years ago with his .308 Win. shooting 200-gr. Sierra HPMK's; 200-19X and all 20 shots went into about 4 inches. I'd get the rifle with McMillian stock; it's best suited for prone competition. Check out the NRA's following web site for F class matches in your area: http://www.nrapublications.org/sh.%20sports/highpowerrifle.asp Search the web for "f class rifle match" and you'll find a bunch of stuff on gear used. You may not even need anything that fancy, depending on the ranges you shoot. At my club we shoot 300 yard reduced targets at 200 yards. I good 223 or 6mmBR will do the job. My Savage 110FP in 223 will shoot X-Ring in F class. Don't use a bipod. A good front rest will be much better. You will need a good scope if you are shooting small caliber rounds, as you will have trouble resolving the holes. Peter. Be without fear in the face of your enemies. First things first: You need to decide which division of F-Class you want to shoot, F-Open or F-T/R. That helps you decide on equipment needed. The rifles you mention would likely do better in the F T/R, as the only calibers allowed in it are .308 and .223. Also, that division does not allow front rests, so it's mostly shot with bipods and a rear bag. You'll want the best glass you can beg buy or steal. You can find a lot of other info on the game, as well as ask questions at www.long-range.com, they have a complete forum dedicated to it. Eric
