Mike Stinnitt just received his notice that the group he shot in Denton, Texas was officially recognized as a World Record and the smallest official 5 shot group ever shot. .0077, the old record was held by one of the McMillan brothers(Mac) at .009. Congratulations Mike, it will probably stand for ever. I believe Mike was shooting a 30PPC.

Unbelievable! Do you know more about the equipment he was using? "If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy."

Butch- Was this in one of the varmint classes or hunter class? The only easy day is yesterday!

It was in the LV class. No other class has a record this small. The hunter and VFS classes are bullseye shooting only, not group.

Evan, I don't. I shoot with Mike, but really don't pay attention as most BR rifles are capable if the right, barrel, bullets, and load come together with a great shooter.

I believe the McMillan record was 40yrs ago. Actually Mac McMillan shot his .009 group in 1973. Mikes Stinnitt's equipment list was a 30PPC cartridge Bib Bullets Panda Receiver Jewell trigger Larson-cedar carbon fiber laminated stock Farley coaxial front rest Kreiger barrel Leupold scope I think a 45X

I belong to the club in Denton where Mike shoots and where he set this record. While I don't shoot benchrest, I've shared the rifle range with him any number of times and I can honestly tell you that it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. While he'll tell you that nobody was more surprised by the record than he was, I think it's pretty safe to say that good luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity. He doesn't seem to leave very much to chance, that's for sure. analog_peninsula ----------------------- It takes character to withstand the rigors of indolence.

I was amazed in F-class how much of a difference a rest like the Farley makes. In BR it would be about mandatory.

There are other good ones used in FClass and BR.
