Bill I think you are right about that. I know on some of the barrier islands off the Florida Panhandle Coast (like St. George Island) it is not uncommon to find 50 cal. bullets, I guess the Navy used the islands for targets. I've got three or four of them somewhere. Never found any brass though, maybe the saltwater took those.
