jetdrvrCheck out the Tegucigalpa landing. I used to take the Herc in there. That runway is really bad. There's a steep dropoff at the departure end, and many more than one aircraft has gone off it.
The runway has around a 2% downslope, creating an optical illusion that can cause you to land long, which is the worst possible thing you can do, and since you have to descend in a circular pattern down into the valley, it's a real bitch. I'd think twice before riding a jet into that place.
Used to be a hill just short of the approach end that would activate your GPWS and scare the shit out of you just when you were concentrating on hitting the touchdown zone perfectly. They finally bulldozed it. I'd rather go into Bogota in the middle of the night in bad weather than take on Teguc in broad daylight. I have a few gray hairs, (the ones that are still remaining) from that approach. Definitely worth watching.

Did you by chance ever operate in/out of Thessaloniki, Greece. One and only ever in there, grass and gravel strip and in a C130! Departure is straight into the side of a mountain, then turn and out over the Aegean Sea - Bet it is not like that today, huh?
Some of these airports could not possibly be as bad as I recall?
