Not sure there has been any discussion of this event. Presumably an American missile was used. Any talk of the effectiveness or lack thereof, of Russian counter measures? Peter.

Huh?? A Su24 was shot down with an AIM9 launched from an F16.
What countermeasures would have been used? Flares?
Su24 is virtually defenseless against any standard fare carried on an F16. Su35 mighta been a different story but Turks don't launch in small numbers so likely any Russian aircraft would/will be toast.
Turks also requested, and received a 6-pack of US F15C's as backup. Who knows what their ROE are. Hopefully we won't find out.
