This is the parking ramp in front of the newer hangers. I dont have any use for this area however, if I would have taxied across it and stopped it would have sunk to the axle!

That's a pretty sad asphalt and soil prep job if it won't support a 8900# Aircraft.

And it's a good thing it's an MU2 and not an
AeroCommander as that would have put the
fuselage firmly onto the ground

then again an AeroCommander is what, 1800lbs lighter?

Does not say, or may well say a whole lot about the contractor or inspector. What things are going to happen to a plane in the future that are far worse and more damaging?

I wonder if the infamous "Yazoo Clay" had anything to do with it.

I had a bit of hands-on experience with that stuff and it made life interesting.

ALLEN W. JOHNSON - DRSS

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

Someone on the construction/inspection side of things did a piss-poor job of construction of that pavment section. The contractor, inspector and engineer should all get a severe tongue lashing, or worse for that happening.

Around 1980, we had a jet commander go through the asphalt on the ramp in front of the FBO I worked for at BNA in Nashville. I don't remember how they got it out.

An update. It appears the county will have to eat this one. The contractor is off the hook because he passed all the inspections.

Better to have a Jet Commander sink up to it's axles in aspalt than have the wings fall off the aircraft in flight...

I just hope that MU2 was parked when it sank, if it was rolling it would require a far more careful inspection

Looking at the geometry of the hole the tire is in and where the aircraft is on the ramp (Would be an odd place to park it) I would guess it was moving slowly.
