I read a story years ago about the first Mig Kill in Korea and wondered if anyone else saw it. Apparently the first MiG shot down in Korea was whacked by a Corsair, or a Mustang, can't remember which. Can anybody verify?

http://www.korean-war.com/AirChronology.html The way I am reading it is a Mig 15 drew 1st blood by downing a F51(P51)on 501101(11/01/1950). The first Mig downed was a Mig 15 on 501108 by a F80 Shooting Star piloted by pilot Brown of the USAF 51st squadron. 500627 Hudson/Fraser USAF F-82G 1 x Yak-9 First USAF kill of the war. 500629 Burns USAF F-51D 1 x Yak-9 1st F51 kill.

Per the USN account, the very first MiG15 appeared over Korea on 1 Nov 1950 and the USAF shot down the first one on 8 Nov, shot dpwn by an Air Force F-80 "Shooting Star" The next day, as Navy planes came to northwestern Korea to attack the Yalu River bridges, a "Panther" from USS Philippine Sea (CV-47) scored the very first MiG kill by a carrier plane. On 18 November, as the bridge campaign continued, F9Fs from USS Leyte (CV-32) and USS Valley Forge (CV-45) each got another MiG-15, bringing the Navy's total up to three. [[http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/events/kowar/50-unof/un-2b.htm]] I too have heard the story of the MiG15 shot down by a Corsair but have never seen the story documented with any hard evidence. Lord, give me patience 'cuz if you give me strength I'll need bail money!! 'TrapperP'

Alegedly.... On 10SEP52 Captain Jesse G. Folmar found a Mig15 pilot stupid enough to engage in a turning battle with Folmar in his Corsair. Though Folmar was just as quickly shot down by the Mig's Wingmen (He bailed-out and survived) AD If I provoke you into thinking then I've done my good deed for the day! Those who manage to provoke themselves into other activities have only themselves to blame. *We Band of 45-70er's* 35 year Life Member of the NRA NRA Life Member since 1984

August 9th, 1952, Lt. P. Carmichael of HMS Ocean's 802 Squadron and his flight of Sea Furies ran into Migs at 06:00.. The pilots of 802 Squadron were credited with two Mig Kills. To Lt. Carmichael fell the honor of becoming the first piston engined pilot to shoot down an enemy jet in the Korean War. The F80 pilot was Lt. Russel J. Brown. Aut vincere aut mori
