Here are a couple observations of mine-

A quote from the article:
"The plane apparently overturned as soon as it hit the water, obviously after not approaching a landing properly a police spokeswoman in the northern German city said.

It was not known whether the plane was due into Hamburg or whether the pilot was forced to make an emergency landing."

Here is the pic:

I suspect the approach to the landing was just fine, but question why the flaps are up and of course the gear is down which has more to do with it overturning that the "approach" of course. It is tragic about the married couple in the back.

for every hour in front of the computer you should have 3 hours outside

A friend of mine up in Alaska dunked his Cessna 185 on Amphib's back in the late 70's or early 80's. His wife was peeling carrots at the kitchen sink and watched him touch down with the gear still hanging. He had taken off from a land strip (as I assume the pilot of this plane did) and just damn well forgot to put up the gear.

My buddy survived with no injuries (except to his pride... he was a decorated Marine RSO in F-4's and flew many Playboy fast FAC in TA-4J's over the trail) and he knew better. He was just tired after commercially flying around fish and fishermen all day and screwed the pooch.

I remember it particularly well because he had a Model 94 Winchester of mine in the plane with him and I guess that it's now in the bottom of China Poot Bay.

Check lists are for using... every single time.

JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

So true, the avoidance of the big problems really does lie in the attention to small details.
