Iranian Air Defense Radar

Not sure if this is real or not, but........

In addition to communicating with the local Air Traffic Control facility,
all aircraft in the Persian Gulf AOR are required to give the Iranian Air
Defense Radar (military) a ten minute 'heads up' if they will be transiting
Iranian airspace.

This is a common procedure for commercial aircraft and involves giving them
your call sign, transponder code, type aircraft, and points of origin and
destination.

I just flew with a guy who overheard this conversation on the VHF Guard
(emergency) frequency 121.5 MHz while flying from Europe to Dubai . It's
too good not to pass along. The conversation went something like this...

"Iranian Air Defense Radar: 'Unknown aircraft you are in Iranian airspace.
Identify yourself.'

Aircraft: 'This is a United States aircraft. I am in Iraqi airspace.'

Air Defense Radar: 'You are in Iranian airspace. If you do not depart our
airspace we will launch interceptor aircraft!'

Aircraft: 'This is a United States Marine Corps FA-18 fighter. Send 'em up,
I'll wait!'

Air Defense Radar: (no response ... total silence)

While this may be amusing, can I ask you if you think it is OK for the US to violate the airspace of other sovereign nations? Is it OK for the US to overthrow the democratically elected governments of other nations? Is it OK for a US warship to shoot down the civilian aircraft of other nations, killing 290 civilians?
Peter.

You can ask anything you want to, but if you want answers, try prayer (although that doesn't work for me, maybe it does for you). Otherwise, take it to the political forum, you'll get plenty of opinions/answers there.

I would guess it all depends which cockpit your sitting in. If in fact you are in a US Marines FA-18 fighter I would have to say yes.

BTW Petie, I would also suspect that the sovereign nation of Iraq would welcome you with open arms, no one here is gonna miss ya!!

Thank you gentlemen! Your "answers" are about what I expected. I did hope for better, however.

Go visit the ARPF, Peter. You'll find some friendly bubbleheads over there who might take up your cause. This is the Aviation Forum, just in case you were misdirected.

Peter; consider again your comment concerning the civilian airliner question. I'm a former airline captain, ATP, professional pilot, former US Naval Aviator. Why would any civilain airline captain fly directly at any warship, of any country, when there's high political tension going on? It's needlessly provocative at best, as as you point out, very dangerous. I've been there, avoided doing that; for the safety of my crew and aircraft--the only way I'd do what that Iranian Captain did is for provocative reasons, or to drive the airliner into the side of the warship. I do not give the Captain the benefit of being foolish or stupid. There was intent there.

I no of no other publicized incident of an airliner messing with a warship since. I can only conclude that zelots in airliners learned to chose softer targets than American warships, and other methods of suicide/murder.

And what about your "questions"? Somewhat incomplete, wouldn't you say? Somewhat leading, don't you think? And finally, so much taken out of context, don't you agree?

Peter There are lots of wonderful countries out there that would love to have you. Cuba comes to mind. Beautiful weather etc etc. Quit second guessing and bitching just leave this god awful country. Take your friends and family with you. Especially your family. Honestly I'm not making a joke here.

If it was not for the brave men and women of the US all of Europe and all of Asia would have had to try to live under the Axis powers and after that if not for our fortitude and selflessness almost all of humanity would have been under Stalinist style communism.

Now we are involved in a world wide war with extremist Muslims who think it is honorable to publicly behead helpless people. Their intention is to MURDER AS MANY INFIDELS AS THEY CAN . Their stated goal is to wipe the Jews off the face of the earth. Guess what in wars unpleasant things happen. WE are as a nation doing the best we can. If we were one tenth as savage as the extremist muslims we would have simply treated them they same way they would treat the Israelis and all this would be over. If being at war is to tough for you well get the hell out. France is a great place. They would love you. You could strike and live the good life.

I'm guessing Peter won't be responding to this thread very much. I don't think he likes us.

Probably one of those urban legend things, but Peter might take note, the plane claims to be in IRAQUI airspace. Big Grin
