I have a friend, who along with some of his buddies, have gone to Russia, bought and brought back several Russian Jet planes, as well as a Hind chopper.

They fly them on a regular basis.

$3000 will buy you a boxed up SU-22 or Mig 21. Finding a shop in the USA to Zero time and upgrade them might be a bit pricey ... Big Grin

What do they weigh? Seems to me like the scrap value might be more than $3000.

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

The time and fuel it takes to scrap one isn't worth the return. Aluminum was $.64 spot on friday. There were a couple operations in Russia, Poland, Czech Republic who were getting them dialed to fly but that has to be a fairly small market. I pawed one that flew here to Miramar a few months ago. Pretty rough but simple as a hammer. Tens of thousands of them were built world wide.

According to my internet reads, the Mig 21 weighs over 10,000 pounds and the SU-22 weighs over 20,000. You'd think the engines would be worth more than $3000 each. Can you provide info on purchasing details or contacts?

I've posted this info before but years ago I saw a couple of AN-2 aircraft in Anchorage that had been bought and flown over from Russia. I did not see any of these in the film clip/photos and was wondering if any are still available and what they would cost to buy and then have certified for flight?

Lord, give me patience 'cuz if you give me strength I'll need bail money!!

Me too! I don't fly but I could build a hell of an exhibition car for the strip!

Gato - let me see what I can come up with. The latest source I had was through a friend who was in Poland a couple years ago. Shouldn't be hard to find a rack of em for sale.

ATF regulates this. The cannons should have been permanently disabled if still installed. We civilians can't be trusted with those sorts of things ...

Yeah, that level of potential political protest is just too much for the Feds...

Well they banned handguns over here & deaths & injuries from handguns has gone off the scale, but it's o.k. for stuff like the Russki planes to come in, along with all the handguns from abroad! Roll Eyes

In the boom I was involved in bringing lots of sports cars over from the USA, lets just say there were quite a few "interesting" objects found under dashboards and other unobvious locations.
One day a mechanic came screaming into the shop shouting "Black Windows", everyone laughed, but as the car had come from Southern California I took it seriously. Sure enough when I looked in the MG it was INFESTED. I called a mate who works with venomous spiders and he collected over 150 of them.

Shame, we here in the States put most of our airplanes in flyable storage in AZ. Some get broken up. I found that web page interesting, the photo's of American stuff in the Russian Army in WW-II was interesting. Lots of P-39's and the Jeep with the girls loaded in it was touching in a way considering the Nature of the War in the East. I had an Uncle that spend his time in WW-II on liberty ships taking supplies to Russia. Hard duty.
