I sent this to my BIL, he is a retired Navy Captain. He was in charge of Aircraft maintinence on the carriers. He said the survivability of American aircraft was legendary. He also talked about a F4 the took off with its wings folded and made it back to land safely.

Read the other day somewhere online that the Kadena AFB wing is back in the air. The problem is longeron failure just behind the cockpit. Turns out the AF has inspected most of the F-15's and found at least one where the longeron in question was not built to specs. Found some cracks in a few others. They will slowly be coming back on line during the next few months. We really need them.
