THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE PIECE OF AVIATION HISTORY.

It covers America's entry into the Jet Age with the Bell P59A.

Note the part is about the installation of a $2 doorbell ringer to the dash
of the P59A to provide vibration so the gauges wouldn't stick.

Went to an airshow of Gliders at Brookley Field ,Mobile Al in about 1944. The special unannounced event was a flight by this historic aircraft. If my childhood memory serves they did a takeoff, flyby and landing and I really didn't know what I was seeing. Brookley was a training base for glider pilots I believe. This had to be prior to the Normandy invasion. The jet didn't impress my Dad but the glider pilots did. I do remember one trick that they did that really impressed Dad. They landed right in front of us and rolled the nose up on a silver dollar to demonstrate their precision landings. The glider ( I believe a Waco) stood straight up on it's nose. Very impressive to a young boy.
