HALFMOON BAY, B.C. – The float plane lost a propeller in mid-flight, chopping into both pontoons, but RCMP say the pilot still managed to make a safe — but powerless — landing.

Police say the incident happened Monday afternoon shortly after the plane left Powell River, B.C.

The Seair Beaver float plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Halfmoon Bay on B.C.’s Sunshine Coast when the plane’s propeller came off.

And while both pontoons were damaged after being struck by the propeller, the plane managed to stay afloat because there are several sealed compartments in each pontoon.

The pilot and three passengers weren’t hurt.

The plane was safety towed to shore by a Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue vessel and two other civilian-operated vessels that were nearby.

Looks like it came right off the shaft. Lucky it went straight down and not off to one side or the other and taking a wing along with it or a big chunk of the tail.....

Better get the engine and prop logbooks ready to hand over. Congrats to the pilot for handling that. Losing the prop would adversely affect your CG,especially if you are right on the edge of your envelope.
