I performed the annual inspection on a friends S2B that is 4 hangers down in exchange for time in that aircraft. I had a great time but it would take some getting use too! That's some serious flying no doubt and my hat's off to those airshow performers!!! He now has it up for sale to help finance another sprayer and has offered it to me at a pretty good price (he knows if I buy the plane he will still get to fly it! Big Grin). Part of me is saying hell yea, party naked dancing!!! the other part is saying pay off the house, prepay the kids college or something more grown up and responsible coffee. What do you fine gentlemen think? Confused I think it would make for some cool stories Cool to tell the nurses in the old folks home, provided I make it that far! jumping

I have flown both the S2a (owned that one) and the S2b. If it is priced right and you know the airplane (you just did the annual) I would consider seriously buying it.

Make sure you learn proper spin recovery though, it's easy to be ham fisted with it and in a situation you have never seen before.

If my neck were not so screwed up, I would own an Extra 200 right now. The difference is amazing, the Pitts was to the Stearman what the Extra is to the Pitts. Great airplanes all.

I have heard to pull the power and let the stick go, a little opposite rudder and it becomes a lawn dart. Is this the proceedure you used?

I couldnt imagine! I would love to go around the patch in an extra or edge!

I'd love to own that bird but my carcass is simply to large to fit in that little gal.

Not to mention that my wife would kill me if I did.

Mississippian,

You'd better throw caution to the wind and buy that little gal. If you don't you might be accused of becoming a cautious old fart. Wink

I just opened a gift from santa doubling the value of my life insurance policy! Shall I take this as a hint that it is ok to get the Pitts or a hint not to buy any more firearms or they will be used against me? Confused

Buy the Pitt's mount several cameras, post often, we live vicariously through you. It's all good.

And a merry Christmas to you sir! Big Grin

Power off, hands off and push the rudder pedal that resists most.

Some local idiot dumped a bright red Pitts into the trees in a local campground a couple years back (Beltzville PA if you wanna look it up)
but the idiot hadn't been properly instructed in flying the aircaft.

it was NOT a "hull loss" accident but he broke/bent all four wings

since then the aircraft has been repaired as I've seen it operating in the local area.

Another Pitts for sale that belongs to a longtime shooting buddy, Gene Beggs. Gene I believe was inducted into the IAC Hall of Fame in 2000. Gene has a shooting tunnel in Odessa, Tx and has no time to fly anymore.

I don't think he has it listed anyplace. We visited with him a couple weeks ago on the way to Calif. to visit my youngest son. I can give you Gene's email if interested.

Beggs, I think it was him, wrote a very useful article on spinning (And recovering from same) a number of years ago. I used to give a copy to flight students before spinning them (I never soloed a student before spinning them..told them day one that's the rule and never had a problem) and suggested they read and understand it.

You are correct stubbleduck47. Gene is a BR shooter now and has built a shooting tunnel in Odessa, Tx. He has a small machine shop there and sells windprobes. They are wind indicators that uses cross wind component to help read the wind. Gene is quite the tinkerer and is a very sharp gentleman. He is also a very kind and personable guy.
I bought 2 windprobes from Gene about 3 yrs. ago and he was going to bring them to the shoot in Seymour,Tx. He later found he couldn't come and shoot, but he drove 200 miles to deliver them to me and then turned around and drove home. How was that for service!

Butch, Im sure if I end up getting a Pitts it will be the one here at Yazoo City. The main reason is my friend is willing to take a jeep rock crawler in on trade! I lost interest in the jeep a couple of years ago so this will help rid the hanger of an eyesore/money pit!! I was mainly interested in Genes for comparison to be sure my friend's is fairly priced. There's not too many S2B's on the market to compare. Perhaps you could ask him to look at the 1984 S2B on Barnstormers and provide his opinion given provided information in the ad. Maybe if I get Gene Biggs blessing that will be all it takes to motivate me to close the deal!! haha

This should be an FAA requirement!

This is Gene Beggs response to my email about the Yazoo City plane.

Sounds good. The price is right and if there are no surprises, it would be a good buy.

Short and sweet.

I think you would like this a lot better.
Because i like you so much I'll let you keep it at my house too!!!

By the way I think a plane like that Pitts is more like something I would love to have for a week or two and then just give it back Wink thats just me though. No doubt it looks like a lot of fun and its an awsome looking plane.

As far as the Pitts vs. the Extra just google Bulldog air shows or Jim Leroy.
