I love P-51s!! Best escort fighter of the war. While a Spit could turn a little tighter and a P-47 could take more damage, ask most any WWII fighter pilot what plane he’d rather be in while over Berlin—with the understanding he has to get back home to England, and he’ll say the P-51.

Yea, but one little itty bitty hole in the cooler and the P-51 became a poor glider. The P-47 however could have half the jugs shot off the Double Wasp engine and it would still get you home... albeit a little noisy and shaky.

One of my uncles was a P-47 crew chief in WWII. He had nothing but good things to say about that machine.

Good video.

I like the line in the movie Dunkirk when the three Spifires flew over the civilian boat, the father without looking said the sweetest sound in the world was that of a Rolls Royce Merlin. I think he's right!

There is no sound like a Mustang!!

I thought that was Lee Lauderback's Stallion 51 TF-51...nope, once on the ground....different paint job. Great flying!!...and outstanding sound fill.

If you want to fly one...in the front seat ....have a visit with Lee in Kissimmee, FL. You will NEVER forget that ride!!

Cheers,
