Great post, Jet!

I love looking at these experiments.

A fellow brings one of the B-25s with the 75 mm cannon to our little air show here at Prescott.
(Love field). There is no copilot station. That space is filled with the feeding mechanism and ammo for the gun. A lot of airplane to single-hand.

I remember the Budd Conestoga being made entirely of sheet stainless. Is that right? Stainless is a difficult mat'l to work with. Hats off to them.

The McDonnell Bat, I thought, was an extraordinary design effort for the time. I believe it was also the first product of the fledgling McDonnell Corp. The cooling arrangement was designed to provide thrust. The best view of the a/c was from directly in front. Beautifully swoopy.

A magnificent first effort.

Too many things to talk about. Would sure like to sit down over a couple of cold ones with you sometime.

My favorite WW 2 American Fighter, and my favorite version:

the P47 N... they made 1850 of them and cancelled orders for another 5,000 when the war ended...

fastest P47 version to enter production and also the longest ranged one..

I have a fair amount of photos of the same stuff, that came from when I worked at the Smithsonian in High School... and my dad was attached to a spell photo section at Andrews AFB...

A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him "Why do you carry a 45?" The Ranger responded, "Because they don't make a 46."

I'm pretty sure the aircraft they identify as a P-51mustang in "dazzle camo" is actually an A-35 Apache.

I didn't see a pic of a P-40Q

And to RG Rhodes if you like stainless steel aircraft how about the Fleetwings Seagull?
