This is from my hometown newspaper 2008-12-19 A Houma pilot crashed his plane into a marsh about 4½ miles southwest of the Patterson Airport Thursday evening around 6 p.m. The single engine aircraft is designed with a parachute system in cases of emergency, which was deployed for the emergency landing at the edge of a canal. Acadian Air Med Services helped St. Mary Sheriff's personnel locate the airplane. The pilot, who was rescued by boat, said he had been experiencing engine trouble and was attempting to make it to the Patterson airport. He sustained no serious injuries. Sheriff David Naquin said Louisiana State Police, Civil Air Patrol, Perry Flying Center and local volunteers were also helpful in the incident. Those things are pretty interesting IMHO, and while not completely fail safe they do provide an extra alternative that if needed is priceless. Does it say at what altitude he deployed the chute? That would be interesting to know. for every hour in front of the computer you should have 3 hours outside

Aircraft recovery Cajun style. http://www.banner-tribune.com/Photos/retrieval.jpg http://www.banner-tribune.com/...s/retrieval-haul.jpg The airplane that ``crashed'' in the marsh southwest of Patterson Thursday was retrieved Friday. St. Mary Parish Sheriff's office personnel and Ronnie Thibodaux of Ronnie's Airboats in Centerville used two airboats to salvage the small plane: A crane-equipped one and another with a large enough deck to haul the aircraft out. Naquin said no fuel or oil leaked from the airplane. The pilot experienced engine trouble late Thursday evening and made an emergency landing in a canal after deploying a plane-equipped parachute system. He sustained no major injuries, and returned Friday to help with retrieval. The plane was owned by LeBeouf Towing of Berg, La
