Yeah, I like that Don't kill yourself part. You be careful carving those holes in the sky! Rusty We Band of Brothers! DRSS, NRA & SCI Life Member "I am rejoiced at my fate. Do not be uneasy about me, for I am with my friends." ----- David Crockett in his last letter (to his children), January 9th, 1836 "I will never forsake Texas and her cause. I am her son." ----- Jose Antonio Navarro, from Mexican Prison in 1841 "for I have sworn upon the altar of god eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man." Thomas Jefferson Declaration of Arbroath April 6, 1320-“. . .It is not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.”

My advice follows: In the air, any airplane is always trying to kill you. With a tail dragger, the plane tries to bust your ass on the ground, too. You must always think ahead of it, respecting the fact that it will get your ass not only if if you quit paying attention for a second, but if you don't know what it is going to do before it does. Repetition of fundamentals at altitude will give you an opportunity to find out what the sneaky little bastard's tricks are.... that is, if you can get the squirrely thing off the ground and back down in the chocks again. ... but everybody knows that. There is a great story about a guy in the Pacific during WWII who shot down 4 or 5 Japanese a/c on a single mission, but didn't think he was good enough a pilot to do victory rolls coming into the pitch up at home base. My kind of pilot! JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

Im gonna have to perk up and pay attention while landing the Pitts! The sprayers, although they are taildraggers, are rather easy to land. Double Rifle Shooters Society

Yes, thanks for your concern! I have been so busy at work I have not been up in the Pitts at all! Got caught up Saturday evening but realized the annual expired in March so I started Monday with the disassembly. Shouldnt take long because it hasnt flown but around 5 hours since the last inspection. Im gonna give it another good lookin since its my butt at stake now! Installing an Airwolf remote filter kit as well. I hope to be going next week but I have started getting several calls for work after the high winds pass later this week. Once I start flying her I will keep you gentlemen posted! Double Rifle Shooters Society

Just for safety sake. Fly low, fly slow, and always cross control in the turns!

The previous owner and I finally slowed down enough at work to get together for a quick Pitts checkout. I put him in the back seat so he could refresh his skills and then we were gonna swap. He did two landings and said he was good but before we traded seats I decided to try a few from the front since were were already buckled in. First attempt, low/slow pass, approach was terrible!, Second attempt, approach improved, bounced, go around, third more improvement, bounced but stayed with the landing and got it down with help, fourth, made an ok landing. My biggest problem was over controling which I knew was gonna happen. All it takes is a fart and this damn thing is pitching up 20%! Once on the ground it goes straight as long as the driver leaves it alone! I feel that if we had a little time to get to altitude and do some turns/slow flight/stalls etc it would have help greatly! Also, the front seat is more difficult than the back for 2 reasons, first, the visibility is much less, second, you are sitting darn near the cg. The back seat was much easier! No time for Acro, that will be the next lesson!!! Double Rifle Shooters Society

I have flown the S2b, S1s, S1t and owned an S2a. Make sure you learn proper spin recovery from someone who understands the Pitts. It is very short coupled as you know and it is easy to get confused where you are in (upright-inverted-flat or accellerated) them when your spinning. They will kill you if your not careful and hamfist it.

PLEASE watch this it may well save your life.... IT doesn't matter if the spin is inverted flat or conventional the recovery is identical and it works every time. Guys get killed worrying about how what kind of a spin they are in and get confused and disoriented. READ THIS AGAIN IT DOES NOT MATTER what kind of spin you are in the recovery is the same and it works every time! Rip the power to idle neutralize the the stick and the rudder once the nose falls through and you are indication about 100 KIAS pull to recover. Read the article first then watch this video three times. I've been flying aerobatics for years and I've heard all kinds of BS about different spin recoveries this is the real simplifies save your life deal right here. http://www.aopa.org/training/a...010/100603spins.html
