Allan's link really shows how close to the ground the aircraft was. Do these jets have a call-out for ground proximity that lets the pilot know how far above terra firma he is in these cases? | |||

Some do. On the 747-200 I flew, the flight engineer called out the radar altitude from 200 feet to fifty feet in increments of fifty and then in increments of ten below fifty. At "twenty", you pulled two degrees nose up and wiped the throttles. The airplane landed itself. | |||
