The A10 would be one of the most efficent and affective aircraft in the US inventory. Considering that, with the way the world is, good ground attack/close troop suport aircraft are needed. Most fighter aircraft are used more in ground support roles then air superiority roles. Why would you retire your most efficent and effective weapon.

Oh, the irony! 2020

quote:
Representative Mac Thornberry, chairman of the House of Representatives Armed Services Committee, said the Air Force action against Post was 'important and correct.'

'Members of Congress must be able to receive unfiltered facts and opinions from service members...,' he said in a statement.

'Attempts to prevent or restrict that communication cannot be allowed.'

So, just what makes the A 10 different and superior from the Ju 87 of Hitler's day ? Easy meat for Spitfires in the Battle of Britain.

Nothing if you have air superiority! You use them when the enemy doesn't have an effective counter measure.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. The the Ju87 is not an A10 type aircraft, the 87 was a dive bomber and bloody slow, as was the Fairy Battle. The most produced military aircraft in the world is what the A10 follows. That was the Russian Sturmovik and same for the Skyraider in its day. Niether of which were as easy pickings as a JU87

The A 10 is not as unwieldly as a JU87 but as Peter said Air superiority is a very definate advantage. I was talking about best ground attack aircraft.
