I remember when these things began replacing the C 141's at Charleston. They're supposed to be STOL like the Herc, but no general is gonna order one of these high priced freighters to operate within artillery range of the enemy, if he can help it.

Like the Herc, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Fat, clunky looking airplanes when compared to the graceful C 141, but they will haul a lot bigger load.

I think the term "muscular" is more appropriate than "fat and clunky." Just an old Redleg's impression.

Those C-17's are a neat bird, but "Real Planes Have Props" meaning the Hercules!!!!!
