Hey Jet.. How many dead stick landings have you made? I've had two, both turned out ok. One in a C-180 that I was able to set down on an old railway bed and the other in a T-6 that I put down at the airport. That video brings back the feeling you have though.

Fun video to watch. I also have had two dead stick landings - one in a brand new V35b Bonanza that I ran out of gas while IFR then landed wheels up in a soybean field. The other in a Baron when both throttle cables froze after a long relatively high altitude run in January. I could not get it to land on the 4000 ft runway with the advanced throttles so I turned them both off at 3000 ft. To me they seem pretty much like any other landing except you knew there was not going to be but one chance to get it right and sometimes you do not know exactly where you are going to land until the last minute. It strikes me that a lot of the bush pilots are nearly daily doing essentially the same thing because their landing area often does not permit a go-around even if the engine is ok. ALLEN W. I had 7 all together over 34 years of flying. Two of those were in helicopters and one engine out in a twin. In the old days every landing was zero power approach to a landing. But noise and other things changed things and guys in 152 make B-52 traffic patterns these days. Not many teach gliding spirelles to a landing anymore either. Flight training was so much better 30+ years ago, now they just what to shove you thru and and instrument rating as quick as possible. You end up with people who never look outside the airplane.
