This is a strange version of an Army Observation plane... what is it??

http://www.abovealaska.com/flyin/

This is the Talkeetna Alaska Fly In Site...if the warbird doesn't come up, click on the arrow over THREE aircraft...

I am guessing an L-13A ...a civil conversion with an R-985

A throaty flat 6 flew at the Valdez STOL competition...

Cheers

It’s a Polish “Wilga”....done up in faux Army colors.

NOPE!! Notice the mid-level horizontal stabilizer on the subject plane!!

The Wilga is a great bird, in fact a fellow AR colleague, Angus up in BC flies one on floats for his "former guiding Territory"...until BC Govt shut down Grizly hunting!!

Clan Cholla got it very close... I spoke with the Talkeetna Fly In people and they say this specific bird is hangared in Anchorage and is one of the conversions of the original Stinson L-13...there are several-

L-13A Production aircraft, powered by 250 hp (187 kW) O-425-9 engine. 300 built.[2]L-13BConversion of L-13A for cold weather operation, capable of operating from wheels, skis or floats. 28 converted.[3][4]Acme Centaur 101Conversion of L-13 as six-seat bush aircraft. Powered by 300 hp (224 kW) Lycoming R-680-E3.[1]Acme Centaur 102Similar to Acme Centaur 101, with Jacobs R-755-A2 radial.[1]

L-13A converted to Caribbean Traders Husky III standard with a 450 h.p. Wright R-975 engine Caribbean Traders Husky I Civil conversion of L-13A. Retained O-425 engine.[1][5]Caribbean Traders Husky II Civil conversion of L-13A. Powered by 300 hp R-680-13 engine on modified engine mount capable of swinging out for easy maintenance.[1][5]Caribbean Traders Husky III Similar to Husky II, but powered by 450 hp (338 kW) Wright R-975-7 radial engine.[1][5]
Operators[edit]

I believe the one I saw is probably the Lycoming radial powered conversion. I have a couple of buddies keeping an eye out for it!! The straight L-13 did a GREAT job at the VALDEZ STOL competition...I can only imagine how a a 300-450hp would perform....along with the lovely sound of a ROUND engine!!

Why is it whenever someone asks "what is this strange aircraft?" I expect to find a picture of a Blohm & Voss BV189
(German WW2 photo recon aircraft)?

If I provoke you into thinking then I've done my good deed for the day!
Those who manage to provoke themselves into other activities have only themselves to blame.
