This photo is captioned TBD but I think it is an SBD. Note the perforated dive flaps.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
It is another Life Magazine photo.

Looks like the last in the line of the Northrop BT-1 series (rounded tail and smaller cowl for the 1535 engine). The Northrop BT-1 did morph (yes a Northrop product did turn into a Douglas product) into the SBD-1 with the addition of the 1820 cyclone engine. I don't know exactly when the tail became the Dauntless shape we are familiar with but guess it was when Douglas took over the project and during or shortly after the power plant change.

Before posting this I did a double take at all the Dauntless images and noticed the cowls and tails were different. It appears the wing shape was not changed a lot.
