Just hit my 40 hours tonight. I'm scheduled for my check ride in a week. Just studying back over things for the oral. I did great on the written just a bit of nerves on the oral, but then again I always expect far more from myself than any test standard requires. Yes it's cocked, and it has bullets too!!!

Study, relax enjoy. Post your accomplishment. I well remember DFE saying if you can park it you got it. Scared I would taxi into a row of a/c! Jim

If you're ready for a checkride at 40 then congrats!! That's huge! My DPE told me that if I could land it and get it safely to the hanger then I'd pass....that was right before he reached over and covered my ASI...AND told me it was a short-field landing. I will take my Instrument check ride in the next 30 days. Hope I get a different examiner "....but to protest against all hunting of game is a sign of softness of head, not of soundness of heart." Everything is ready to go. Had to cancel the check ride for this weekend. Weather was great in the morning, but was forcast for about 25-30 kts quartering crosswind at my home airport by the time I would have been returning. And would have been blowing right up and across a valley that I have to fly through to get to the testing site. With the 172 that was not my idea of a good time. I decided postponing was the better option. Yes it's cocked, and it has bullets too!!!

Rhys As I remember hearing it, making good decisions on NOT going up leads to a long flight career. Don't limit your challenges . . . Challenge your limits

In 1966 one of my first instructors told me it was better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground. Nothing I have seen since has convinced me that this was not good advice.

Well the weather cooperated today, and I made the quick flight down to St. George, UT and did my oral and check ride. It went well all the way around. This is a goal I've wanted to make happen for as long as I can remember. Just had to wait until things came together for me to be able to make it happen. Right at 4 months with 40 hours in the log when I headed down to do the test. I'll probably start working on my Instrument rating in 6 months to a year. Will do a few more hours around the local area in the next couple weeks, then headed to Spokane, WA to pick up a Cherokee 180 toward the end of the month. Yes it's cocked, and it has bullets too!!!
