Actually, a pretty good cross-wind landing. I once had to land my Cessna 180 (tail dragger) diagonally on a wide runway because I ran out of rudder when trying to straighten out over the centerline. Also, took off crossways after I had refused.

Looked pretty sloppy to me.

Looks like it was a gusty crosswind--as most heavy crosswinds seem to be--and the pilot was over correcting a little. Of the three planes I flew in the USAF, the C-130 and T-1 had to be landed wing low. The T-38 had to be landed in a crab. Most airlines can be landed in a crab, and that is a little easier than landing wing low, though I think a well executed wing low landing can be smoother.

I didn't realize Birmingham had severe crosswind issues. I'd like to know more about the lens this guy used.

That's what I was taught with a little extra thrust to overcome loss of lift. The crab can/is be tough on tires and gear. But you have to go with what the book dictates; I guess.

A 777 is landed wing low up to 31 knots direct crosswind. Over 31 knots you use a combination slip and partial crab. The 777 is very controllable and responsive. I landed one in Taipei right after the passing of a Typhoon with 45 knots straight across the runway. The airplane does exactly what you tell it to do, she's very well behaved.

Unlike an Airbusse with yaw damper that works, most of the time.

And ailerons that are too small and 1/2 second behind your control inputs. The only buses that I've flown are the 319/320. Both are sloppy whores in a gusty crosswind.

Amazing the 7X and Airboos come out of the same country. Are you still flying?

I love it when pilots talk dirty.

Cool
