I flew as a antisub crewman in a S2E which was an aircraft carrier lauched fold able wing 4 crew little sub destroyer and I never new it was converted to a tanker, the designation was changed to a S2T, T for tanker, a small airplane for that type of work. I have seen the Navy Patrol plane P2V which I also crewed on has been used often for fire fighting it is a 2 recip 2 jet powered land base patrol plane

Same airframe but the engines have been retro fitted with turbines on the new tankers.
